Federal Funding for TRiO Remains Level: In December, both chambers of the U.S. Congress passed an appropriations bill to fund 15 federal agencies, including the Department of Education. TRiO was one of several higher education programs that will continue to be funded at 2007 levels. CNM’s TRiO program provides support services for students in their efforts to graduate from CNM. TRiO’s support services include: one-on-one academic and career guidance; English, math, chemistry and biology tutoring; college success workshops; and other educational activities.
Find Answers on CNM’s Website: Visitors to the CNM website (www.cnm.edu) can now get the answers to their questions quicker than ever before. A new product on the front page of the site, branded as “Ask CNM!” allows visitors to ask questions in natural language and get one right answer, regardless of the hundreds of possible variations in which the question might be asked. Other search tools can provide many pages of possible answers. The “Ask CNM!” engine, provided by IntelliResponse, delivers one concise answer that is guaranteed by the company to be correct at least 80 percent of the time. The system also captures every question that is asked. If questions are being asked that weren’t anticipated, those questions and their answers can continuously be added to the system.
Strategic Plan Nearing Completion: CNM’s Strategic Plan, which will provide the guiding principles that will lead the college through the next five years, is nearing completion. The CNM Governing Board is in the process of finalizing the plan. The comprehensive plan has been honed through input gathered from 15 different strategic planning forums attended by 274 participants. Participants included CNM faculty, staff and students; program advisory board members; K-through-12 representatives; community and business leaders; and higher education partners.
Annual Report/Calendar Available: CNM recently published its 2006-07 Annual Report, which doubles as a 2008 calendar. The report summarizes the past year’s activities and accomplishments at CNM, and it provides charts of CNM budget and enrollment figures. The report also offers a variety of puzzles and brain teasers that allow you to put your problem-solving skills to work while learning more about CNM. The Annual Report is available in the Marketing and Communications Office. To contact MCO about obtaining a copy, call 224-4680.
