What is an Achievement Coach?

The role of the Achievement Coach is to help students succeed with their education and career goals. This is accomplished by problem solving to overcome barriers to their education and to utilize their strengths. The overall goal of the Achievement Coach is to help retain students in classes.

When do I refer a student to an Achievement Coach?

Refer students for any obstacle that is preventing them from being successful in your class. If we are not able to help the student directly from our office, we will find the campus or community resource to help the student. Below is a list of common referral areas:

  • Academic coaching & intervention

  • Excessive absences

  • Dropping a class

  • Failing a class

  • Program and course information

  • Time management

  • Study skills

  • Balancing school and other responsibilities

  • Career and educational planning

  • Basic financial aid questions

  • Scholarship information including emergency scholarships for items that impact retention such as housing and transportation.

What are some of the community and CNM resources that are utilized by the Achievement Coach?

  • Emergency food & clothing

  • Emergency scholarships

  • Childcare

  • Counseling

  • Legal resources

  • Tutoring

  • Utilities

  • Housing

  • Transportation

  • Employment

When is the Achievement Coach  available?

Contact the Achievement Coach for your school directly to find out their availability.

How do I make a referral?

Faculty members make referrals several different ways. One way is to give the student the Achievement Coach's contact information and have them contact the Achievement Coach directly. Some faculty members will email or call the Achievement Coach and ask us to follow up with the student. Other faculty members may walk the student over to the Achievement Coach's office. Feel free to use which ever method is easiest for you.
