How Do I Transfer?

Some students attend CNM with the intent of transferring to a four-year institution. If this is your academic goal, you will want to consider the following:

1.) RESEARCH - It is important to research CNM and other colleges to determine admission and program requirements and transfer eligibility.  Visit the CNM Transfer Information page.

2.) WEBSITES - Visit the New Mexico Higher Education web site for assistance in choosing your transfer institution. This web site provides the names and contact information for all New Mexico higher education institutions, private and state-funded, licensed to operate in New Mexico.

If you are interested in UNM, check out the UNM Transfer Guide.

If you are interested in NMSU, check out the NMSU Transfer Guide.

3.) VISIT – Contact the Admissions Office of the transfer institution of your choice and meet with the academic advisor of the program in which you are interested. It would be beneficial to take a copy of your college transcripts and ACT or SAT scores with you.

4.) APPLY – Apply for admission approximately one year before you plan to transfer. Some institutions have admission deadlines and application fees.

5. FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS– Apply for financial aid and scholarships approximately one year before you plan to transfer. Institutions have financial aid and scholarship deadlines.

6.) TRANSCRIPT - During your final semester of coursework at CNM, request that a current official transcript be sent to the transfer institution of your choice. For more information on how to request a CNM transcript click here.  Once you have received verification of transfer credit from the transfer institution, contact the academic advisor at the transfer institution to begin planning your coursework.

Following these steps, will provide a smoother transfer from CNM to another institution and potentially eliminate the chances of enrolling in classes at CNM that may not apply towards a four-year degree.
