Record the grade from your transcript next to the required course on the checklist; for transfer credit - TR, for courses in progress - IP, for course substitution/waivers - SUB.

Credit waivers or course substitutions (only if needed)

Contact the school that offers your major for a course waiver and/or course substitution.  See “School contacts” below. When a course substitution or credit waiver has been approved, you are mailed a copy. You can also pick up a copy at the Main Campus Records Office.

Write “Sub” in place of grade next to the sub waiver’s corresponding class.

Step Two: Additional Considerations when Completing Your Degree Audit

Declare your major.  If you haven’t already done so, declare your major at any Admissions office.  Declare/Change a Major Form (42KB)Click here to get the PDF Viewer!

Selecting your catalog.  Students may choose to complete their program requirements as defined in the catalog that was in effect when they earned their first credit(s) at CNM or a later catalog as long as the catalog is not more than five years old and the student maintained continuous enrollment by completing at least one course at CNM, with a grade of C or better, in that catalog and each successive catalog year.

Grade requirements.  All career and technical courses used to meet program requirements must have a grade of C or better.  For all arts and sciences courses, a minimum grade of D is required.

Course expiration.  Career and technical courses more than ten years old must have been officially validated by the academic division in which the course was offered.

Residence requirement.  At least one-quarter of the required program coursework and credit hours for a certificate and 12 credit hours of the program coursework for a degree must be completed at CNM, after the program becomes available. (Note: Courses numbered below 1000 cannot be used to meet program graduation requirements.)

GPA requirement.  Achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better in the program (unless otherwise stated in the program description).

Using other credit. If you will be using transfer and/or other credit to fulfill program requirements, do the following:

Transfer credit - have official transcripts sent to the CNM Records Office for evaluation
External Exam credit (AP/CLEP) - have official scores sent to the Records Office
CNM Challenge Exam credit - contact the school that offers the course you wish to challenge
Credit waivers and/or course substitutions - contact the school that offers your major
