In order to register for the General Educational Development (GED), you must be at least 16 years old and have completed the withdrawal process from your school district. You must also have a completed Underage Verification Form (UVF). A UVF may be obtained from one of the following locations:

  • If you live in the Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) district, you can obtain a UVF directly from Betty Cordova at the APS Office, located at 6400 Uptown Blvd NE, (505) 855-9042. Hours are from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The APS office will issue a UVF to APS, non-APS, home schooled, and out-of-state applicants who reside in the APS district. Age must be verified with a birth certificate or a government issued photo identification. Your parent or legal guardian must accompany you with proof of identification only at the time the UVF is signed. If you are an APS student, you must first get a Student Exemption from Compulsory School Attendance Form from the counseling office at the last high school you attended.
  • If you live in the Rio Rancho School district, you must obtain a UVF from Rio Rancho High School.
  • If you live outside the APS district, you must obtain a UVF from the school district in which you currently reside.

CNM Testing Services will also continue to issue the UVF. In order to verify age, you must present a birth certificate or a government issued photo identification. Your parent or legal guardian must accompany you with proof of identification only at the time your UVF is signed.

If you live and last attended a high school within the APS district, you must officially withdraw and obtain a Student Exemption from Compulsory School Attendance Form from the high school counseling office. The following signatures are required: student, parent or legal guardian, counselor, and principal. The last required signature of the District Superintendent is not necessary until a blank UVF is obtained. Next, take the Student Exemption Form and the blank UVF to the APS office for required signatures.

If you live within the APS district and you were home schooled, your age must be verified at the time a blank UVF is requested. No exemption form is required. The Chief Administrator of the school you last attended must complete and sign the UVF.

If you live within the APS district and last attended a high school that was outside of the APS district, your age must be verified at the time a blank UVF is requested. No exemption form is required. Age verification and a blank UVF must be taken to the APS Office for required signatures.

If you live outside the APS district and last attended a high school that was outside the APS district, your age must be verified at the time a blank UVF is requested. No exemption form is required. Your UVF must be mailed or taken to the last high school district you attended for required signatures.

Once the UVF is completed and returned to CNM Testing Services or Assessment Services, you are eligible to take the GED Exam. The exam is offered on a pre-registration basis at the Main and Montoya Campuses. The completed UVF, two forms of identification, and a $25 non-refundable fee are required to complete the registration process.
