| | Reading is a key to success in education and in life. Unfortunately, many children fall behind in school because they do not learn to read early and read well. With additional support, children who fail to build basic reading skills at an early age can improve their chances for success in school. Tutors, working with teachers and family members, can give children the boost they need. |

Reading Kids Count tutors work at pre-selected school sites with children in grades K-5. This program is ideal for those students who wish to pursue a career in education, as well as those who demonstrate an interest in working with children. Students who wish to work in this rewarding environment must be:
- Financial-aid eligible
- In good academic standing
- Able to work 20 hours per week
- Have reliable transportation
- Agree to comply with school and departmental standards
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check
Albuquerque Reads
In a joint venture between the Center for Community Programs and Partnerships, Albuquerque Public Schools and the Albuquerque Greater Chamber of Commerce. Albuquerque Reads has been designed to provide additional support and guidance to kindergarteners who are in their first phase of literacy acquisition. Early intervention can be very successful in preventing reading difficulties in young children. Following explicit classroom instruction in reading and writing, tutors in the Albuquerque Reads program will provide the opportunity for the students to practice in an individualized one-on-one setting that can hone in on the specific needs of each and every student. This can be very powerful!
