Agency description/mission: "To provide quality adult day services as an alternative to institutional care." For adults with developmental disabilities, frail elderly, or seniors with Alzheimer's or related dementia, Share Your Care provides a fun, safe place to be during the day while caregivers take a break from the challenging but rewarding role of care giving. We are open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Service Learning opportunities: Students will have the opportunity to meet with and understand the unique needs and abilities of adults with physical and mental impairments, as well as seniors with Alzheimer's or dementia. Share Your Care participants are wonderful human beings with much to share with any student interested in understanding this very special part of our community.

Orientation/Training schedule: Students may create their own schedule by working with the staff of the individual sites. Our hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Special conditions or requirements: Students must pass a background check (no instances of abuse, neglect, or exploitation) prior to being accepted into the program. (Please note the background check will take 3 to 5 days to complete.) Students working over 20 hours per week will be required to have a TB test.

Number of Service-Learning Students Needed: Varies

Hours of operation when students are needed: No evenings or weekends

Minimum hour commitment: 25 hours + 2 hour's orientation

Agency description/mission: St. Martin’s is Albuquerque’s largest multi-service agency for homeless and near-homeless adults and children. We need volunteers to work in a number of different areas, to include: Work station assistance in Day Shelter: for example, answer telephones, distribute supplies and mail, prepare and serve meals, data entry, special projects, clothing & personal-care drives, and sorting donations. Volunteers make it possible for St. Martin’s to continue to deliver high-quality services to clients. We are deeply committed to making all volunteer experiences rewarding and worthwhile. Open Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 2:00 pm and Sunday 7:30 am to 10:30 pm.

Service Learning Opportunities: Family Services room Service Learner to serve as first point of contact while opening the door for case management opportunities and make referrals to other agencies. Service Learner will also provide homeless families with much need items such as diapers, formula, etc.

Orientation/Training schedule: Strictly based on the job Service Learner chooses and the extent of training the job requires. Students should anticipate an orientation lasting no longer than one hour

Hours of operation when students are needed: 8:00 am to 2:00 pm

Minimum hour commitment: 2 hours per week/25 hours per semester



The Service Learning Program is a proud recipient of a Corporation for National and Community Service Grant. The program is also the 1999 National Bellwether award winner and the 2004 Community College National Center for Community Engagement Service Learning and Civic Engagement award winner.
