Agency description/mission: The CASA Program works under the supervision of Children’ Court Judges in the 2nd Judicial District. CASA is a volunteer program that monitors child abuse and/or neglect cases in order to speak for the best interest of children in court. To do this, volunteers are given a court order to investigate the facts of a case. From their investigation they can recommend a course of action to the court, help facilitate a quicker resolution of the presenting challenges and monitor family progress toward a plan of reunification. Service Learning opportunities: Students interested in studying pre-law, para-legal, criminal justice, social work, or computer administration would learn how child abuse cases are processed by the court and serviced by Child Protective Services. A student would have a choice of working in the office processing documents and imputing information used by volunteers and staff or assisting volunteers in investigating facts about a case. Orientation/Training schedule: Initial training of 1-2 hours to learn the basic operation of the program. On-the-job training would be continuous as students would work under the supervision of the staff. OPTION: volunteer training of 30 hrs. Special conditions or requirements: Students must be at least 21 yrs. of age. They would submit to an extensive interview and background check and be sworn in by an officer of the court to keep all case facts confidential. Agency description/mission: Providing home delivered meals and social contact to elderly, homebound, convalescing and disabled persons in the Albuquerque, Rio Rancho and Corrales area. Service Learning opportunities: Students will be in our kitchen either packing meals in paper sacks for our clients or packaging cold items into containers for clients. Hours are Monday thru Friday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am Students are required to complete within 13 weeks. Orientation/Training schedule: Held the first day of the Service Learning start date as hands on. Special conditions or requirements: Please be on time, hair net, which is furnished, will be required and no open toed shoes for safety reasons. Agency description/mission: Albuquerque Reads is a literacy program that works. You can help by volunteering as an individual or as part of a team to tutor just over one (1) hour a week during the school year to help two (2) kindergarten students. You will be trained in an easy to follow curriculum with pre-selected books and scheduled activities. All you need is the willingness to commit 70 minutes per week for the entire school year. Service Learning opportunities: Tutors visit the school for 70 minutes per week to help two (2) kindergarten students to read, write and skills development. Each tutoring session consists of a ten (10) minute meeting with the on-site coordinator; two (2) 30-minute tutoring sessions with two (2) students. No special skills required, only a willingness to commit one hour a week. Orientation/Training schedule: One three (3) hour training session at a convenient time. - meeting the challenges of the future in providing quality support and assistance for those with Alzheimer's and other related dementia's and providing support for family caregiver's and
- supporting the continuing research of conquering this disease
Service Learning opportunities: Service Learning Students are needed to assist with the planning and organizing of our caregiver conferences and workshops, researching and compiling information on Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, assistance with facilitating early stage support groups, quality assurance surveys, bulk mailing projects, health fairs and community education. Orientation/Training schedule: A required one hour orientation and training will be given prior to service learning assignment. Special conditions or requirements: Good communication skills, public speaking skills, organizational skills and good computer skills (Microsoft Office).
