Students must attend an orientation session (failure to do so may result in non-enrollment of Service Learning). Orientations are held from Thursday of the first week of class through Wednesday of the third week (unless that is a holiday). See Schedule

Service Awards/Scholarships
Cheryl Johnson AwardAwarded to students who exemplify the true spirit of service and civic engagement while performing their service learning at the Barrett House. Each spring semester awarded to a student who has performed a minimum of 35 service learning hours in superb standing at the Barrett House and has met all the criteria set forth by the CNM Service Learning Program and their instructor. Barrett House officials in partnership with CNM Service Learning officials will nominate and select the award recipient each spring.
Karl E. SamuelsonOutstanding Service Learning students are nominated by their agency representative acknowledging exceptional commitment through positive attitude and outstanding character.
Presidential Volunteer Service Award
Honoring Americans Who Make a Difference by VolunteeringPresidential recognition program for Americans of all ages who contribute a significant amount of time to volunteer service.Guidelines: 100 hours of documented service to the community. Timeline begins the first day of CNM's Spring term and ends the last day of CNM's fall term. What do recipients receive? Award recipients receive:
-An official President's Volunteer Service Award pin
-Personalized certificate of achievement
-Note of congratulations from the President of the United States
-Letter from the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation

Civic Engagement/Leadership Institute
Civic engagement opportunities to develop leadership skills as active students/citizens within our communities. The 9-month program is rigorous and requires completion of service and leadership training.
