Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Honors Program?

The School of  Communications, Humanities & Social Sciences General Honors Program, in conjunction with the Division of Mathematics, Science and Engineering, gives students an exciting option for enhancing their liberal arts education while at CNM. Honors courses are taught in a challenging small-group seminar format which emphasize discussion, student participation and self-expression.
See "Frequently Asked Questions" for juicy details

Honors Courses:
- The Ancient Legacy (GNHN 121A, a 100 level course)
- The Modern Legacy (GNHN 121M, a 100 level course)
-  Honors Topics Courses (at the 200 level)

See "Faculty and Courses" link for schedule

In the Ancient and Modern Legacy classes, students read the great books of Western thought.  The Honors Topics classes are creative, interdisciplinary seminars which represent leading knowledge in the various disciplines.

Eligibility:

A student must have taken at least 9 college credits, must have at least a 3.2 GPA and must have received a B or better in English 101 in order to be considered for the Honors Program.  Enrollment in Honors classes requires permission of the instructor of the class or of an associate dean.

Enrollment in Honors courses is by application only; however, any student who meets the above qualifications and is interested in the challenge these courses offer is encouraged to apply.

Transferring to UNM:

Students who take Honors classes at CNM are automatically eligible to be in UNM’s Honors Program when they transfer.  All Honors classes offered at CNM transfer to UNM.  UNM requires 18 credits of Honors classes in order to graduate with Honors and 9 of those credits (3 classes) may be taken at CNM.
