Though I am a native New Mexican, my career as a teacher began in New York City where I taught English and later, history. I was fortunate to work in a collaborative, progressive environment under the tutelage of engaging, dedicated administrators and educators at a middle school in Harlem. It was there that I developed my personal philosophy of public education, premised on student-centered, authentic, and rigorous curricula and assessments that transcend classroom walls and make learning a community endeavor. I am a passionate believer in the transcendental nature of a powerful, public school education.
I currently work for the Bernalillo Public Schools as a technology resource teacher where I coordinate the implementation of a district-wide, online literacy program and assist classroom teachers in integrating technology with their class content, and I am a part-time faculty member in Central New Mexico’s Alternative Licensure Program. In addition to assisting CNM students in developing curricula and assessments that adhere to progressive and time-honored methodologies, and students’ own unique philosophies of education, it is my intent to provide future teachers with the applicable tools that will guide them in their new career.
I have a BA in the field of history from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and received my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Assessment from Fordham University.
