THEA 120

                     Beginning Acting

(Recommended: THEA 122)
Provides students with the fundamental physical, vocal, and imaginative skills for acting and performing.

Students learn techniques and strategies for creating performance art from the words of a play and the text

 of a situation, so they can “hold, as ‘twere, the mirror up to nature.”

 THEA 121                        Beginning Acting II                                            3                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            

(Pre-requisite: Beginning Acting 120 or permission of the instructor)
Continuation of THEA 120 with emphasis on exploration of the text as the source for theatrical decisions

and the effects of those decisions in performance.                                                 

THEA 122

                 Introduction to Theatre

Recommended: ENG 101 or Accuplacer Sentence Skills Score of 110 or equivalent)
Introduces study of the history and role of theater past and present: the nature of theater art, theater

traditions from the Ancient Greeks to Epic Theater, and including elements that make up a production.
Continuation of THEA 120 with emphasis on exploration of the text as the source for theatrical decisions

 and the effects of those decisions in perfomance.                                                 

 THEA 222                  Acting for the Camera                                        3                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         

(Prerequisite: THEA 120-Beginning Acting I or permission of instructor) Introduces students to techniques

specific to performing for the    camera while they continue to learn and practice performance skills that

apply to acting for both the stage and screen.     

THEA 258                   Beginning Screenwriting: Short Form                   3                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             

(Prerequisite: English 101. Recommended:THEA 122) Provides the critical ingredients of great dramatic

 writing that are then applied to a dramatic form manageable for the emerging screenwriter: the narrative

 short film.
