August 2008:
SharePoint Takes CNM Online Options to a Higher Level
The evolution of CNM’s information technology options will take another major step forward with the integration of SharePoint, a popular and dynamic Microsoft online environment that will provide faculty and staff with a new level of online capabilities. Click here to view a SharePoint demo. The user-friendly system can be used by faculty members to develop customized websites with a wide variety of available features, such as blogging templates and RSS feeds. CNM schools, departments and offices can use SharePoint’s much-heralded intranet sites to transform daily work activities into more streamlined, more efficient and more collaborative processes that can be tracked, accessed and discussed online. These features will also allow CNM to further its sustainability efforts by reducing the need for paper.
SharePoint Training Offered by Organizational Learning
Beginning Sept. 12, Organizational Learning will offer a three-hour SharePoint “beginner” training session for faculty members every Friday (9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m.) through the fall term. The training session will include an overview on how SharePoint can enhance teaching efforts. The sessions will also help faculty members learn how to set up the user-friendly SharePoint templates; transfer content from “planet” sites to SharePoint; and use various SharePoint features, such as document libraries, calendars and survey tools. Call Organizational Learning at Ext. 4400 for more information or to schedule a session.
“Intermediate” training sessions for faculty will be added during the fall term. Staff training sessions will be offered through Organizational Learning in the spring term. Those who currently have websites that reside on “planet.cnm.edu” will need to transition their content to SharePoint before mid-January 2009, when the “planet” server will no longer be available.
June 2008:
As you know we have been in the process of coordinating an upgrade to MS Vista in the Instructional computer labs. During the planning phase, we discovered many issues including the following:
1) In a testing environment, the installation of programs is so slow that it is basically non functioning.
2) There are many network access issues.
3) The process to put images on our computers is not functioning properly.
4) Printer installation issues.
5) Software compatibility issues with Vista
6) User access issues.
ITS has discussed these issues with Instruction and a decision has been made not to teach MS Vista at CNM in the fall. We will continue to monitor Microsoft's plan for Vista and on-going discussions with Instruction to determine next steps. Thank you all for your participation in this effort.

3/16/08 - On March 16th, fraudulent e-mails disguised as official CNM e-mails were sent to CNM employees through Outlook accounts and to about 330 students through Passport accounts. The e-mails told recipients that their e-mail accounts would be deactivated if they didn’t reply with their username, password and date of birth.
Due to some of the CNM community responding to the e-mails with their personal information, mass amounts of spam were sent to outside Internet Service Providers. This resulted in CNM e-mails being blocked by host sites such as Comcast, MSN and Hotmail. And CNM is appearing on some “blacklists” that organizations use to block
spam e-mails.
3/27/08 - Update to the above issue 3/16/2008: Microsoft/MSN/Hotmail is resolved.
3/27/08 - OWA (Outlook Web Access) is inaccessible from CNM Open Wireless on Campus.
3/27/08 - LDAP issues which are causing access problems updating new accounts and password changes through APR to W3/login. Please contact the ITS service desk in order to resolve these issues.
3/27/08 - Wireless access to internal CNM resources (my documents, H drives, print services…) is intermittent and unavailable at times at all sites. We are looking into the problem and will have it back up as soon as possible.
3/27/08, 4:30 pm - Wireless Update for Above issue:
Wireless Access is unavailable. ITS is working to get it back up and running. Thank you for your patience.
3/28/08, 8:30 am - Wireless Update for Above issue:
