How to filter Spam in Outlook



Use these instructions to filter your spam to a junk e-mail folder. Remember to delete your spam from the junk folder occasionally to keep your e-mail account under quota.  E-mail size quota's are set at 500kb.

Step 1.
Go to the menu options and choose 'Tools' then 'Rules and Alerts':

Step 2.
Select the 'New Rule' icon at the top of the screen:

Step3.
Choose the 'Start from a blank rule' bullet and highlight 'Check meessages when they arrive'.

Choose the 'Next' Button:

Step 4.
Check the box 'with specific words in the subject',
then in the lower window choose 'specific words':

Step 5.
Now you are ready to tell it which words you want to use for your rule; you want to use the phrase '***POSSIBLE SPAM***': choose the 'Add' button, then the 'OK' button.

Step 6.
Choose the 'Next' button and check the box 'Move to a specified folder' then
then in the lower window choose 'specified folder'

Step 7.
At this point you should be able to choose your Junk E-mail folder; if you do not have it as an option then you can choose the 'New...' button to the right and create a Junk E-mail folder.  Then choose the 'OK' button.



Step 8.
Choose the 'Next' button.  If you have any exceptions you would like to create, follow the wizard just as you did in the above steps; otherwise, the window should look as follows:

Step 9.
Click on Next and then Finish.

 

Step 10.
Now you can run the rule if you want to get all the old spam into the junk e-mail folder, just click on the icon on the top of the window that reads 'Run Rules Now...'

Step 11.
Click on the Apply and then the OK button.
