National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy– NCSALL conducts research and disseminates strategies to improve the quality of practice in educational programs that serve adult learners.

New Mexico Commission on Higher Education - Adult Basic Education- This CHE site information such as directories, upcoming meetings and deadlines, policy statements, funding opportunities, and links to other important sites.

U.S. Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education– OVAE supports programs, including English literacy and civics education activities, that help young people and adults obtain the knowledge and skills they need for successful and productive lives.

Diversity

American Arab Anti Discrimination Committee – ADC is a civil rights organization committed to defending the rights of people of Arab descent and promoting their rich cultural heritage. ADC, which is non-sectarian, non- partisan is the largest Arab-American grassroots organization in the United States. It was founded in 1980 by former Senator James Abourezk and has chapters nationwide.

Black/African Related Resources – Lists information sites concerning black and African people, culture, and issues around the world.

Migration and Ethnic Relations – A collection of links to major Internet resources provided by the European Documentation Centre and Observatory on Migration and Ethnic Relations.

Academy for Educational Development – AED is an independent, nonprofit organization committed to solving critical social problems in the U.S. and throughout the world. Major areas of focus include health, education, youth development, and the environment.

Center for Research on Education, Diversity and Excellence – Based at the University of California, Santa Cruz, CREDE assists the nation's population of diverse students, including those at risk of educational failure, to achieve academic excellence. The purpose of CREDE's research is to identify and develop effective educational practices for linguistic and cultural minority students, such as those placed at risk by factors of race, poverty, and geographic location.

English as a Second Language
75 ESL Teaching Ideas – by Hall Houston.

Center for Applied Linguistics – CAL staff conducts pre-service and in-service professional development for instructional and administrative staff in programs for the teaching of foreign languages and for the teaching of ESL.

Hands-on English – a periodical for teachers and tutors of adult English as a second language.

National Center for ESL Literacy Education – read articles on current topics in the field, subscribe to a free newsletter, access online documents, FAQs, and EL/civics lessons, receive advice and technical assistance on instructional methods, curricula, and assessment.

National Institute for Literacy (NIFL) LINCS ESL Online Discussion – this is an electronic discussion forum focusing on English as a second language (ESL) instruction for adults. Discussions include such topics as instructional practices, program design, research, and policy. Listserv archives make previous discussion also available.

National Institute for Literacy (NIFL) LINCS Adult ESL Special Collection – this site is dedicated to providing adult ESL curricular materials and resources, news in the field, and a forum for adult ESL issues.

Teachers of English to Speaker of Other Languages (TESOL), Inc.– TESOL promotes the development of the expertise of its members and others involved in teaching English to speakers of other languages.

Topics Magazine – a lovely online magazine for ESL students.

Family Research

Harvard Family Research Project – The Harvard Family Research Project supports the efforts of organizations and programs attempting to expand family involvement activities to influence more continuous, systemic, sustainable high-quality programs. The website is designed to help programs in their efforts by providing updated knowledge about successful partnerships, resources on family-school-community partnerships, information regarding solutions for sustaining programs, and useful Web links to other sites on partnerships.

Learning Disabilities

Scotopic Sensitivity/Irlen Syndrome – Irlen Syndrome, also known as, Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome (SSS) is a type of visual perceptual problem. It is not an optical problem. It is a problem with how the nervous system encodes and decodes visual information. Academic and work performance, behavior, attention, ability to sit still and concentration can be affected. Linguistics

Center for Applied Linguistics –  CAL is a private, non-profit organization: a group of scholars and educators who use the findings of linguistics and related sciences in identifying and addressing language-related problems. CAL carries out a wide range of activities including research, teacher education, analysis and dissemination of information, design and development of instructional materials, technical assistance, conference planning, program evaluation, and policy analysis.

Literacy

Adult Literacy Media Alliance – ALMA is a national television and video based adult literacy service that is being developed with support from the Ford Foundation and the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund. The project is designing and producing TV 411, a series of literacy videos, accompanying print materials, and a web site for adults at the pre-GED level; adult literacy programs and other community service providers.

Family Literacy Foundation – encourages parents and communities to read aloud with children. 

Laubach Literacy Action – LLA promotes the role of volunteers in adult programs and the provision of services to all adults in need of basic skills instruction.

Literacy Assistance Center – located in NYC, the LAC's mission is to support and promote the expansion of quality literacy services.

Literacy Link Eastern Ontario

Literacy Online –  joint project from the National Center on Adult Literacy and the International Literacy Institute. Provides national leadership in research and development in the field of adult literacy.

Literacy Volunteers of America –  delivers tutoring services through a nationwide network of volunteers.
