New Student Registration



If you are a new student to CNM’s Adult Education Program for GED preparation (GED) or English as a Second Language (ESL) , or have not attended classes in CNM’s Adult Education Program within the last school year, you will need to complete a two-part registration process lasting approximately 4 hours.

I. Placement

Placement is available at Main Campus on a walk-in basis.  For GED students the hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. and Friday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.  For ESL students the hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

To schedule Placement at Montoya, South Valley, or West Side campuses you may call 224-4282 to request a placement which will be given in the weeks between terms. 

CASAS, the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System, is designed to determine the appropriate classes for ESL Students to take in order to help you reach your goals and takes approximately 2 hours to complete.

The TABE, Test of Adult Basic Education is designed to determine appropriate classes for GED students and takes approximately 3 hours to complete.

II. Registration

Upon completion of the Placement, you will be given the date Registration begins. The purpose of registration is to sign up for classes. When registration starts the registrar will review your scores with you and advise you as to the level of classes you may take.  Registration will take approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete.
