SAGE Information Technology

In the School of Adult & General Education (SAGE), the courses falling under the title Information Technology are classes that help students become successful computer users.  These classes help students gain basic computer skills so that they can be successful in school and the new technology rich world.  Students have a variety of classes to pick from based on their needs.  Students can self select classes starting with classes that cover the most basic skills—how to turn on and off a computer appropriately and operate a mouse.  The more advanced student has a variety of class choices that help them create spreadsheets, effectively search the Internet, and create any needed document in a word processing program.  There are also two courses that help students gain keyboarding skills.

IT 0196, 0296 (Previously IT 096) - Special Topics:  Presents various topics in computer science.

IT 0530 (Previously IT 094) – Introductory Internet 1:  Provides opportunities to develop beginning internet skills.  Students will learn how to use the Internet as a learning aid and research tool.   Recommended for entry-level students.

IT 0540 (Previously IT 093) – Introductory Email  1:  Provides opportunities to develop beginning electronic mail skills.  Students will learn how to use CNM PassPort as well as other email systems.  Recommended for entry-level students.

IT 0620 (Previously IT 092) – Introductory Operating Systems 1:  Provides opportunities to develop beginning operating system skills and file management.  Students will learn how to use Microsoft Windows operating system environment and how to use programs like Microsoft Windows effectively.  Recommended for entry-level students.

IT 0630 (Previously IT 091) – Introductory Word Processing 1:  Provides opportunities to develop beginning word processing skills.  Students will learn how to use Microsoft Word to create a word processed document.  Recommended for entry-level students.

IT 0650 (Previously IT 098) – Computer Basics (half term):  Provides opportunities to develop beginning computer skills in a half term course.  Includes common word processing tasks, Internet, and understanding computer system components.  Introduces concepts used in many courses.

IT 0850 (Previously IT 100) Basic Keyboarding/Computer Skills:  Emphasizes beginning keyboarding, computer concepts, Internet skills and basic word processing.  Students will spend about 60% of their time learning keyboard skills and 40% learning basic computer skills.

IT 0870 (Previously IT 099) – Basic Keyboarding (Self-Paced) 2:  Emphasizes beginning keyboarding using the touch method in a self-paced environment.

IT 0920 (Previously IT 095) – Software Projects:  Students will participate in a collaborative classroom environment creating group projects using a variety of programs.  This type of classroom allows students to gain skills in computer programs such as Microsoft Excel or PowerPoint while also developing the skills needed to be successful in the workplace.
