Prerequisite Assessment

Prerequisites are requirements that must be met prior to registering for many courses.  Prerequisites are based on the essential skills or competencies to be successful in the next level course.  Most entry-level courses have prerequisites for math, English or reading.  Check the course description in the CNM Catalog of the course you want to take to see if prerequisites are required.

There are four ways to meet a course prerequisite:

  1. Take the Accuplacer placement exam at CNM.
Accuplacer is a computer adaptive exam used to assess reading, English
and math skills and help beginning college students plan their course schedule
            and meet course prerequisites.
  2. Provide official ACT/SAT scores (no more than five years old) to CNM Admissions
  3. Transfer of credit from another institution of the required prerequisite course with a grade of C or higher
Students wanting to transfer credits earned at another institution, or who need
to provide proof of meeting a course prerequisite, must have official
transcripts sent to the CNM Records Office.
  4. or with successful completion of a specific prerequisite CNM course.
