Closed Classes/CNM's "Orange Card" Policy

"Closed" means that a class has been filled and is not available for registration. If a class is closed, an "overfill" may be granted only by the instructor. If the instructor agrees to the overfill, a Course Overfill Card ("orange card"), with the instructor's signature, must be brought to a registration office for enrollment in the class. "Orange cards" are available in division offices, registration offices and libraries beginning one week before the term begins. Students should not contact the instructor about an overfill before the first class meeting and should not call instructors or academic divisions regarding class overfills. The following restrictions apply:

  • Overfill cards may only be used by students eligible to register for the current term.
  • Overfill cards will not be accepted or processed after the registration deadlines.
  • Overfill cards cannot waive a course prerequisite or co-requisite.
  • Overfill cards cannot be approved before the first day of the term.
