Award Letter

Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you have been awarded financial aid. Awards are offered on a first come first serve basis. Your award has been calculated based on full-time enrollment (12 credit hours or more). Payment is based on the actual number of financial aid eligible enrolled credit hours at the time of disbursement. Some awards require further action in order for you to receive the award. Please read further for more information.
To receive an award, students must:
Be enrolled in a major and courses that are financial-aid eligible,
Not be attending high school,
Not be receiving aid from another college or university.
Awards vary based on financial need, which is the difference between CNM's cost of attendance less your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and other resources. For the average cost of attendance, visit the Financial Aid section under Getting Started in the online CNM Catalog at http://www.cnm.edu/coursecatalog/index.php.
Loans and student employment:  For instructions on how to request or accept loans and/or student employment awards, please visit www.cnm.edu/dept/fass/loans/instructions.php.

Checks are available at the Cashiers Office at either the Student Service Center at Main campus or Tom Wiley Hall at Montoya campus, depending on where you are carrying the most hours that term. A valid ID is required.
Checks left at Cashiers will be mailed immediately after the release date to the student’s current address on file at the CNM Records Department.
If your file is not complete by the first check release, checks are available every Friday thereafter.
Bookstore Deferments

Bookstore deferments are for student use only. Anyone caught purchasing for others will be reported to the Dean of Students for disciplinary action and possible suspension of financial aid.

Maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress
Federal regulations require all terms of attendance be reviewed including terms in which the student did not receive financial aid. In order to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), students must
maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0,
complete at least 70 percent of all attempted credit hours, and
complete their program within 150 percent of the hours required to graduate from that program.
The above criteria may not apply to maintaining scholarship eligibility.
Appeal Procedures for Satisfactory Academic Progress
Students who have been suspended from receiving federal student aid may appeal. Visit http://www.cnm.edu/depts/fass/requirements/appeal.php for further information.
Developmental Prep Courses
Students can receive financial student aid for up to 30 credit hours of developmental prep courses. Through the Summer 2007 term, any class with a course number of 100 or below is a developmental course. Beginning with the Fall 2007 term, any class with a course number below 1000 is a developmental course. This restriction may include other grants, loans, and student employment.
Programs That May Result in Reduced Aid
Some majors at CNM do not fall under the regular definition of an eligible program and are subject to a special calculation. Depending on the award, the calculation may reduce your aid. A llist of these programs for 2009-20010 will be posted at  http://www.cnm.edu/depts/fass/requirements/adjustenroll0709.php as soon as they are determined. Or you may visit the Financial Aid offices at Main, Montoya, or Westside campuses.
Ineligible Courses and Majors
Some courses and majors are ineligible for any federal financial aid. A list of ineligible courses and majors for 2009-2010 will be posted at  http://www.cnm.edu/depts/fass/requirements/0709inelig.php as soon as they are determined. Or you may visit the Financial Aid offices at Main, Montoya, or Westside campuses..
Complete Withdrawal from School
Financial aid recipients who completely withdraw, drop out, or are dismissed from school before completing 60 percent of the term may be required to repay a portion of the funds they received to the U.S. Department of Education. Students who earn no passing grades in a given term are assumed to have unofficially withdrawn. Officially and unofficially withdrawn students may be required to repay a portion of financial aid received. For more information on withdrawals and repayments, visit http://www.cnm.edu/depts/fass/requirements/refundrepay.php.
Dropping and Adding Classes
Students who add classes may be paid for additional hours. Students who drop a class before the census date may have to repay a  portion of funds they received for that class.
Priority Date
For planning purposes, May 1 is the priority date for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the upcoming academic year, which begins every fall and runs through the following spring and summer terms.
