Q: When is the Fall Graduation Ceremony?
A:  Saturday, December 6, 2014

Q:  Where will the Fall Graduation Ceremony take place?
A:  Tingley Coliseum, Expo New Mexico.

Q: What time does the Graduation Ceremony start?
A:  Promptly starting at 12:00pm.  Please inform your family and guests to arrive by 11:15am to ensure they find parking and get to see the start of your graduation ceremony.  There are other events taking place on the same day which will cause the parking area to be very busy.    

Q:  What time do the Graduates need to be at the Creative Arts Building?
A:  Graduates need to report to the Creative Arts Building at 10:00am to be signed in and to begin the graduate procession line up. 

Q:  What time do my family and guests need to arrive?
A:  Your family and guests should arrive prior to the start of the actual ceremony to get a seat.  We recommend that your family and guests to arrive by 11:15am to ensure they find parking and get to see the start of your graduation ceremony.  There are other events taking place on the same day which will cause the parking area to be very busy.  

Q:  Do my family members & other guests need tickets to attend the ceremony?
A:  No, tickets are not needed.

Q:  Why does my family need to arrive so early?
A:  It is highly recommended since parking may be very busy since there are other events taking place on the same day.  Early arrival will also ensure that they obtain a good seat to see your graduation ceremony from the very beginning.  The graduation ceremony will start promptly at 12:00pm. 

Q:  How many people can I bring?
A:  You can invite as many guests as you want. Tingley Coliseum is a large venue and there is not a limit on how many guests that can be invited.

Q:  If I graduated (received my degree/certificate) after the end of the Summer semester, can I still participate (walk) in the Fall Graduation Ceremony?
A:  Yes, all Summer graduates are invited to walk in the Fall Graduation Ceremony.  You will be e-mailed the Graduation Participation e-mail by 5:00pm on Friday, August 29, 2014.  This e-mail will be sent to the graduates cnm.edu email address.  If you haven’t received this email, please contact Brandon Seber at bseber@cnm.edu for more information.

Q:   Do I need to buy a Cap & Gown?
A:  Yes, all graduates wishing to participate (walk) in the Graduation Ceremony must have a BLUE cap and gown.

Q:  Where do I get my Cap & Gown?
A:  You need to first come to one (1) of the following Student Activities Office locations to obtain a yellow parking permit before going to the Bookstore:

  • Main Campus, Student Services Center (SSC), room SSC111
    • Monday through Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
  • Montoya Campus, Tom Wiley Building (TW), room TW-207
    • Monday through Friday 8:00am-5:00pm (closed 12:30pm-1:30pm)  
  • Westside Campus, Westside II, (WSII) room 104-H
    • Monday through Friday 8:00am-5:00pm (closed 12:30pm-1:30pm)   

Once the yellow parking permit is obtained you may visit one (1) of the following CNM Bookstore locations to obtain your actual BLUE cap and gown:

  • Main Campus Bookstore
    • Monday through Thursday 8:00am-5:00pm
    • Friday 8:00am-3:00pm
  • Montoya Campus Bookstore
    • Monday through Thursday 8:00am-5:00pm
    • Friday CLOSED        
  • Westside Campus Bookstore
    • Monday through Thursday 8:00am-5:00pm
    • Friday CLOSED

Q:  How much is a Cap & Gown?
A:  $39.59

Q:  Can I use my friend's Cap & Gown from a previous CNM graduation ceremony?
A:  Yes, as long as the cap & gown is the correct color BLUE.  To verify the correct color, please bring it to a Student Activities Office.

Q:  What side does my tassel go on prior to the Graduation Ceremony?
A:  Your tassel should be placed on the right side of your cap prior to the actual ceremony. Towards the end of the ceremony, the CNM President will confer you as a graduate and will ask you to place your tassel on the left side of your cap.

Q:   When will I receive my CNM Diploma/Certificate?
A:  Your degree/certificate would be available to be picked up in person, from Main Campus
2 - 6 weeks after the semester has ended as long as you are in good academic standing and have passed all required courses.  Enrollment Services will e-mail you, using the CNM e-mail address, directly when they are available to be picked up. 

Q:  How am I able to participate in the graduation ceremony when my classes are still in session?
A:  Your actual degree/certificate is not processed until all grades have been posted.  The actual degree/certificate would be available to be picked up in person, from Main Campus, 2 - 6 weeks after the semester has ended as long as you are in good academic standing and have passed have passed all required courses.  Enrollment Services will e-mail you, using the CNM e-mail address, directly when they are available to be picked up.

Q:  What are announcements?
A: The Student Activities Office sells graduation announcements which can be used to invite your family and friends. Guests do not need them to enter the event venue.  The announcements are sold in quantities of 10 and are $5.00 per pack.

Q:   Do I have to participate in the Graduation Ceremony to receive my diploma/certificate?
A:  No, you will still receive your degree/certificate 2 - 6 weeks after the semester has ended as long as you are in good academic standing and have passed all required courses, provided that you submitted your graduation application.  Please keep in mind that your actual degree/certificate will need to be picked up in person, from Main Campus.  Enrollment Services will e-mail you, using the CNM e-mail address, directly when they are available to be picked up. 

Q:  How do I submit my graduation application?
A:  Below, please find the steps to get you started:

  • To review CNM’s general graduation requirements, log on to myCNM, and click on the “Students” tab at the top of the page.
  • In the Graduation and Change/Update Your Major channel on the right of the page, click on “Your Guide to Graduation”  to access the latest information on the graduation application process.
  • To apply to graduate online, click the link for the Online Certificate and Degree Evaluation (What If Analysis), located below the Graduation Guide link.
  • Once you complete the What If Analysis, you will be allowed to continue to the online graduation application by clicking on the “Apply to Graduate” link.
    • If you are eligible, you will receive an e-mail from Enrollment Services within a week of submitting the Graduation Application.   
  • An e-mail will be sent to your myCNM e-mail account from the Student Activities Supervisor, Brandon Seber, with instructions on how to sign up (register to walk) for your Graduation Ceremony.
  • Follow the directions for the on-line registration form and you will be ready to celebrate your academic achievements with your loved ones.

Q:  How do I participate in the Graduation Ceremony?
A:  Once your graduation application has been submitted, an e-mail will be sent to the graduates cnm.edu e-mail account.  Please open the email and then click on the link to sign up (register to walk) for your graduation ceremony by submitting the Graduation Ceremony Participation Form by 5:00pm on Friday, October 17, 2014.

Please note that this process will take place every Monday beginning on Monday, September 8, 2014 and ending on Monday, October 20, 2014.  If you have submitted your graduation application on a Tuesday, on any other day of the week or over the weekend the participation email will be sent to you on the following Monday e.g. graduation application submitted on Thursday or Saturday, the participation email will be sent the following Monday.

Q:  Do I need to attend the full length of the Graduation Ceremony?
A:  Yes, out of respect for your fellow graduates it is highly recommended that you make proper arrangements to ensure that you can attend the full length of the graduation ceremony.  If you are unable to attend the full length of the graduation ceremony, please contact the Student Activities Office to make arrangements to attend the following graduation ceremony.  The graduation ceremonies are held every Fall and Spring semesters.

Q:  Do I have to have my photo taken during the actual ceremony?
A:  It is not possible for the photographer to not take your photo during the actual ceremony.

Q:   Where do I park?
A:  All graduates enter Tingley Coliseum through Gate 8 near the intersection at Louisiana and Lomas.

Q:  Where do my family/friends park?
A:  All family members & guests enter Tingley Coliseum through Gate 8 near the intersection at Louisiana and Lomas.  A fee of $5.00 will be charged for ALL non CNM Graduates. 

Q:  Is there handicap parking?
A:  Yes, the parking attendants will direct you to the appropriate parking area.

Q:  Is parking free for the graduate?
A:  Yes, parking will be free only for the CNM Graduate by using the yellow parking permit that is available at one (1) of the following Student Activities Office locations:

Q: Is the myCNM email account the only form of communication to receive information on the graduation ceremony once I am approved to participate?
A: Yes, the myCNM (email/web) account is the college’s online communication system. Students should check their email account daily for messages regarding the graduation ceremony once they are cleared to participate in the actual ceremony.

Q:  How close will I be sitting to other graduates?
A:  Due to State Fire Marshal code, the chairs will be zip tied for your safety and these chairs will be very close to your fellow graduates during the ceremony.

Q:  How long will I be standing prior to the actual ceremony?    
A:  Please ensure that you wear comfortable shoes as you will be standing from one (1) to two (2) hours prior to the actual Graduation Ceremony.
