Donna Fastle

Donna Fastle graduated from the University of New Mexico with honors in December 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English (Professional Writing Concentration) and a minor in Sociology. One month later she opened World of Words, a home-based business, providing technical writing, professional editing, and private tutoring services. This enabled her to earn a living and, at the same time, raise her young son. During this time her freelance work was published in a variety of magazines, including Writer’s Digest, Woman’s World, Complete Woman, Families in Recovery, Reader’s Digest, and Campus Life. Additionally, Donna joined CNM as a part-time faculty member 1994 in the Department of Developmental and Adult Education, where she taught English for four years.

As a step toward full-time, regular employment, Donna became a Caseworker for New Mexico’s Human Services Department in 2001. For the next four years she determined financial eligibility for food stamps, cash assistance, and Medicaid.

Longing to return to an academic environment, Donna accepted a Technician III position with Job Connection Center (JCC) in October 2005, helping students compose job-related documents, including résumés, cover letters, reference pages, and interview follow-up letters. In March 2007 she became an Employment Advisor for JCC. In addition to helping individuals with their documents and job searches, she also presents workshops on résumé writing and interviewing skills.

“Every day is a new adventure with my job,” Donna says. “I enjoy the diversity of our students, and I appreciate the range of assistance I can provide.” She is delighted to be affiliated with JCC, as it combines two elements she enjoys most:  working with words and helping students and graduates achieve success.

CNM students currently enrolled in a credit class(es) are eligible for JCC services; all CNM graduates have lifetime JCC services.

JCC is in Room 207 of the Student Services Center, Main Campus, (505) 224-3060 or toll free 1-888-453-1304.
