CNM to UNM Transfer Event for STEM Students Set for Friday
The CNM STEM-UP Center will host a CNM to UNM Transfer Orientation for students planning to transfer to the University of New Mexico on Friday, March 22, from 1-4 p.m. on Main Campus in the Student Services Center, Room 203. This orientation is designed to help students in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields determine if they are ready or on track to transfer to UNM. There will be presentations by Steve Peralta, Director of Student Services for the UNM College of Engineering; Stephanie Hands, Director of UNM Arts & Sciences Advisement for the College of Arts & Sciences; Christiana Ricci, UNM STEM-UP Advisor/Coordinator; Dr. Eugene Padilla, CNM Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management; and representatives from CNM’s Financial Aid and Academic Advisement offices.

Look for ‘Best Colleges’ Survey in Your Email
CNM’s Great Colleges Team will be evaluating the results of a survey that has been sent to a random group of CNM employees from the Chronicle of Higher Education’s “Best Colleges to Work For” program. The emails arrived in employees’ email accounts between Saturday, March 16, and Monday, March 18 – the emails were delivered from “ModernThink.” CNM’s Great Colleges Team will use the anonymous responses to help CNM create a better work environment for employees that embodies a culture focused on employee satisfaction and work/life balance, in addition to many other goals and objectives of the team. To gain a best understanding of employees’ views on CNM as a workplace, a high response rate to the survey is crucial. If you received the survey, please respond with candid answers. Answers are anonymous.

Students Organize Recycling Drive for Unwanted Electronics
CNM students who are members of the SkillsUSA chapter will be hosting a “Recycle Your Old Retired Electronics” event on Main Campus in the Smith Brasher Hall parking lot on April 2 from 7:30-10 a.m. The SkillsUSA students are partnering with ABQ Recycling as part of this Service Learning project. CNM employees and students can drop off their unwanted electronics, and the SkillsUSA students will be available to help unload the electronics from vehicles. ACE Hosts 4th Annual Conference; CNM Employees Step Up With Record Participation in Leading the Way; Main Campus Active Shooter Training Emphasizes Preparation

Active Shooter Trainings at Montoya, Westside Campuses Friday
In partnership with the Albuquerque Police Department, CNM will be offering “Active Shooter” trainings on March 22 at Montoya and Westside campuses. The schedule is listed below. First, however, please take a moment to watch an active shooter training video called “Run, Hide, Fight” that was made for the City of Houston and is sponsored and recommended by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Click here and scroll down the Safety and Security page to access the video. The CNM Active Shooter Trainings will take place as follows:
- Montoya Campus – March 22 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. or 3-5 p.m. in J Building, Room 122
- Westside Campus – March 22 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. or 3-5 p.m. in WSII, Room 115

If necessary, more active shooter training sessions will be scheduled. These training sessions are voluntary, but they are highly encouraged. There will be a variety of safety and security efforts that will be conducted in the year ahead.
Blackboard Users Invited to Participate in Webinar About Facilitating Online Meetings
Any CNM faculty or staff members who use Blackboard Collaborate or for those interested in using the online meeting tool can participate in a webinar on April 4 from 9-11 a.m. This webinar will focus on the non-academic use of “web conferencing” by exploring guidelines and suggested best practices for hosting successful online meetings. Make a Nomination for Outstanding Student Employee
CNM will present a Student Employee Award for Excellence during the annual Student Employee Appreciation Luncheon that will occur this summer. The award recognizes a student employee for exceptional contributions to the CNM community. Any CNM employee or student employee supervisor can nominate a student employee for the award. Free Healthy Eating Workshops Available on Tuesdays at Noon in April
Get on the path to a healthier lifestyle by attending lunch-hour classes in April that are part of a “Brown Bag Lunch and Learn Series” hosted at the Workforce Training Center. The classes are part of the Healthy Meals, Fit for Life program that’s funded by a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant. Mediasite 6 Upgrade Complete
The upgrade to Mediasite, version 6, was successfully completed last week. All presentations are now available from hard-wired or wireless connections at CNM or remote locations. The upgrade also enables access to Mediasite presentations from Android and iOS tablets. Free Diabetic Glucose Meters Available to Eligible Employees, Family Covered by NMPSIA
For CNM employees who are currently covered by one of the New Mexico Public Schools Insurance Authority (NMPSIA) Medical Plans (NM Blue Cross and Blue Shield or Presbyterian Health Plan), you are eligible to obtain a free diabetic glucose meter from CNM’s Human Resources department. If you are in need of a diabetic glucose meter, you may pick up a meter for you and each of your covered family members who are enrolled on the plan and have the need for one of the meters. These meters use formulary strips for a $0 copayment when you fill the strips with a prescription at a non-Walgreens pharmacy, or when you use Medco Mail Order. If you are interested in a free glucose meter, please contact your HR Technician at 224-4600.
Montoya Campus Offers Students Opportunity for ‘Coffee with a Coach’
Students at the Montoya Campus are invited to stop by the Connect Center in Room TW-101 for free coffee, cookies and the opportunity to get questions answered by a CNM Achievement Coach and an Academic Advisor from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, March 21. CNM Society of Law and Psychology Speaker to Talk About Traumatic Brain Injury Cases
The CNM Society of Law and Psychology is pleased to announce that Dr. Ronald Yeo, Regents Professor of Psychology at UNM, will talk about “The Role of the Expert Witness in Cases Involving Traumatic Brain Injury” on March 28 at 6 p.m. on Main Campus in Jeannette Stromberg Hall, Room 308. Montoya Speaker Series Tackles the Topic of Financial Aid on March 21
Krystle Montoya, a CNM financial aid advisor, will discuss how to make the sometimes confusing process of applying for financial aid an easier endeavor. Executive Council of Students Hosting Food Drive
The Executive Council of Students (ECOS) is hosting a donation drive for Roadrunner Food Bank that will run now through March 25. Donation bins for non-perishable food items are set up in the libraries at all campuses.
Blood Drives Organized by Service Learning Students Coming in March
United Blood Services will be on Main Campus between the Max Salazar and Student Services buildings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 26 and 28 for those interested in donating blood. Staff Phone Extensions to Change in Coming Months
As part of a major, ongoing project to upgrade CNM’s phone system capabilities, staff members will be receiving new phone numbers or extensions over the course of the upcoming spring and summer. CNM has access to a limited amount of phone numbers with the “224” prefix – this project will help CNM ensure that its phone system will be able to accommodate future growth. Changes to faculty members’ phone numbers/extensions were part of an earlier phase of this project last year – no new changes will be made to faculty phone numbers or extensions.
Staff members will be assigned one of three different types of phone extensions – a personal extension, a position extension or a function extension. Go to www.cnm.edu/phonechanges for more information about the types of extensions and for a list of frequently asked questions.
