Faculty Members Named as CNM Presidential Fellows

CNM President Kathie Winograd and Vice President for Academic Affairs Sydney Gunthorpe have announced that CNM faculty members Joshua Krause, Kelley Peters, Brian Sailer and David Valdes have been selected as the first CNM Presidential Fellows. More information about the program and what the Fellows will be working on will be shared at the beginning of the fall term. Please join in congratulating these faculty members on becoming CNM Presidential Fellows.

Help Students Get Off to a Great Start for Fall Term – Volunteer for Suncat Days

Volunteers are needed for Suncat Days the first week of the fall term. During this week, staff, faculty and student employees are encouraged to volunteer a few hours of time at a station on campus to distribute information, answer questions and welcome students to campus. Shifts are available at all campuses at a variety of times. Information and maps will be provided at the volunteer stations and employees who work two shifts will receive a special thank you gift. Grab a friend, get out of the office and help build community during the first week of term! Be sure to get supervisor permission before signing up. To volunteer, visit cnm.edu/suncatdays. CNM Student Suzanne Porter-Bolton Receives $50,000 USDA Scholarship

Suzanne Porter-Bolton, a CNM nutrition major, has been awarded a $50,000 United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) scholarship funded by a Healthy Meals Fit for Life grant. It is one of the largest scholarships a CNM student has ever received. Read more.

Blackboard Inaccessible Friday and Saturday Mornings

Due to system maintenance being performed on CNM’s distance learning environment, Blackboard, all services on Blackboard will be unavailable Friday, Aug. 9, from 2-4 a.m. and on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 12:01- 4 a.m. Next week Blackboard will also be off line starting on the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 14, for an upgrade to Service Pack 12. It will be off line and unavailable until Friday, Aug. 16, at noon. Managers and Supervisors Encouraged to Attend EAP Presentation

Outcomes, Inc., which is CNM’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provider, will host a presentation for CNM managers and supervisors about its services that are available to all CNM employees on Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 3-3:30 p.m. in Smith Brasher Hall, Room 100. The EAP program through Outcomes, Inc., provides “confidential, professional assistance to employees experiencing problems which affect their personal lives or job performance.” The program is free for employees and their families. The Wednesday presentation is designed for managers and supervisors, so they can pass along information to their employees. But any employee can contact Human Resources about the program.

Reset Your Phone System Password

Due to necessary upgrades to CNM’s Avaya voicemail system, all faculty and staff will have to reset their voicemail passwords and record new personal greetings as of Aug. 7. All voicemails will continue to be forwarded to your email account and can be played through Outlook. You will not lose any old voicemails that are stored in Outlook.

To reset your password, follow the instructions below. Please be sure to follow the voice prompts carefully to complete the Avaya mailbox initialization process.
1. Call the phone system access number – 44801 on campus or 224-4801 off campus. If calling the off-campus number, press [#] during the greeting and then enter your five-digit phone extension when prompted.

  • If you’re off campus, enter your temporary password, which will be the last eight digits of your nine-digit Employee ID number and press [#]. Continue to step 2.
  • If you’re on campus, you should hear the system address you by name. Enter your temporary password, which will be the last eight digits of your nine-digit Employee ID number, and press [#]. Continue to step 2.

   (IMPORTANT NOTE) 

  • If you hear a recorded name and it is not your name, please contact the ITS Service Desk at 224-4357.
  •  If you are trying to reach your voicemail mailbox through another phone on a CNM campus press [*] [#]. Enter your five-digit phone extension. Then enter your temporary password (last eight digits of your employee ID number) followed by [#]. Proceed to step 2.          

 2After completing step 1-a or 1-b, the system will prompt you to enter a new five-digit password followed by [#]. You will be asked to verify the password – reenter the same password followed by [#].
Your Avaya mailbox password change is now complete. Select option 3 to record a greeting and follow the prompts.
Please note that passwords cannot be consecutive numbers, such as 12345, or your phone extension number.

SharePoint 2010 Coming Aug. 19
A new version of SharePoint – SharePoint 2010 – will be launched at CNM on Aug. 19. There will be a new look and feel to SharePoint 2010, but content currently in the SharePoint system will not be affected by the upgrade. Many users have already been trained, and there will also be a video training made available soon. If you have questions, contact the ITS Service Desk at 224-4357 or itsservicedesk@cnm.edu.

Call for Proposals to Present at Developmental Education Conference
The School of Adult & General Education will be hosting the annual NMTESOL-NMAEA state-wide conference at CNM’s Workforce Training Center Oct. 25-26. This is a professional development conference for teachers and tutors of English as a Second Language and Adult Basic Education students. SAGE is inviting faculty or staff to submit a proposal for a 75-minute presentation at the conference. Presenters pay a reduced registration fee of $25 for the two-day event, which is $50 for CNM attendees. The registration fee includes continental breakfast and lunch on Saturday. ITS Service Desk Has Abbreviated Hours During Break
The ITS Service Desk will have abbreviated hours during the break between terms. The schedule will be 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. from August 12-23.

25 Student Services Center Parking Spaces to Be Reserved Temporarily
Due to a CNM refresh project that requires the delivery of 700 new chairs and the removal of older chairs from classrooms, 25 parking spaces will be blocked off in the first row of the Student Services Center upper parking lot that’s next to Ken Chappy Hall. These spaces will be reserved until Aug. 13.

Employee Training Hosts Fundamentals of Supervision this fall
If you are interested in being a leader at CNM, this training is for you! Offered during the fall term, this 12-week workshop combines the fundamentals of supervision with information specific to supervising at CNM. Participants will be introduced to CNM presenters on topics ranging from planning and goal-setting to supervising, ethics and conflict resolution. The training is scheduled on Fridays from Sept. 6 through Nov. 22 from 9 a.m.–noon in SRC 204. CMM Workforce Training Center to Host Series of Workshops on Sustainable Business
CNM Workforce Training Center will host a series of workshops this November called “Sustainable Business Series: Grow Your Business and Turn Green to Gold.” The first workshop will be an Introduction to Green Business, Tuesday and Thursday, Nov. 5-14 from 6-9 p.m. The second will be Green Project Management, Saturday, Nov. 23 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The third will be an Introduction to Green Purchasing, Tuesday and Thursday, Nov. 19-20 from 6-9 p.m. Take the entire series at a discounted price of $349. Records & Property Controls Relocating
Records & Property Control is relocating to its new location, the Main Campus Physical Plant Building, on Sept. 6.  The move will take approximately three weeks. During the move, records may be checked out only on an emergency basis. Records & Property Control will notify departments when boxes can be accepted for storage or destruction. If you have any questions regarding the move, please contact Records & Property Control Staff at Extensions:  4-4630, 4-4617 or 4-4614.

Remember to Book Travel Plans Early to Get Best Deals
Employees are reminded to book travel plans for CNM purposes, such as conferences, as far in advance as possible in order to save as much money as possible.
