CNM to Close for Winter Break Dec. 19 Through Jan. 1

During CNM’s Holiday Break from Dec. 19 through Jan. 1, all CNM campuses and buildings will be closed. Please be sure to contribute to the college’s energy-saving efforts by shutting down all computers, monitors, printers and speakers before leaving for the Winter Break. Any appliances in your office area, such as coffee makers, should be unplugged before you leave for the break. Also, heating in buildings will be turned down substantially during the break to save energy, so be sure to take home any plants you may have in your office. Please remember to remove perishable foods from refrigerators and your work space.

Timesheet Approvals Due by 1 p.m. on Monday

Electronic timesheet approvals for the paycheck of Jan. 3 are due by 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16. Please submit your timesheet before the deadline to ensure your payroll is processed before the Winter Break. At the end of January 2014, employee W-2 forms will be mailed to the address on your biweekly paycheck advice. If your address is not correct, please log into myCNM, select the Employee Tab and then click on the link for “Personal Information.” This is where you’ll be able to update your “Payroll (Employees only)” address.

Get Your W-2 Early Through myCNM

CNM is offering employees the option to receive W-2 forms electronically rather than through the mail. The W-2 statements will be mailed to employees’ homes before Jan. 31, unless they consent to electronic delivery. Employees who elect to receive their W-2 form electronically will access them sooner than those employees who do not select this option. Don’t waste time at the mailbox waiting for your W-2 to be delivered. Get your W-2 faster by electing electronic delivery through myCNM. To elect electronic delivery of your W-2 go to myCNM – under the Employee tab select “Tax Forms,” then select “Electronic W-2 Consent.” Then you will have the option to check the consent box and press the submit button. Employees may revoke the election at any time and will always receive a paper form if they separate from CNM’s employment. For more information, contact the Payroll department at 224-4444.

Employees Can Change Federal Tax Withholding in myCNM

Employees now have the ability to change federal tax withholding through myCNM. Paper forms no longer need to be submitted to the Payroll Office. Simply log on to myCNM, select “Tax Forms,” then select “W-4 Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate.” Then scroll to the bottom of the page and select update. Upon completion of the changes, be sure to select certify changes. You will then be asked to enter your password. Finally, click on the submit button and the new information will be updated for the next payroll cycle. For more information, contact Payroll at 224-4444.

The ‘K:’ Drive and User Home Directories are Running Out of Space – Please Delete Obsolete Files and Organize File Storage

We need your immediate help in cleaning up your network storage space. The network storage space provided by CNM’s Office of Information Technology Services is nearly full. Some users may get an error when trying to save files to their department’s “K:” drive or to their own home directories. This is because there is not enough storage space currently available on these systems. ITS needs your help to achieve some “electronic housekeeping.” There are a lot of files that users are storing on CNM’s servers that would be more appropriate for a local computer hard drive.

What ITS needs you to do immediately:

  1. Clean up department data stored on the CNM “K:” drive. Please have someone within your organization look at your departmental files, forms, pictures, etc., to see if there are any non-critical data files that can be deleted or moved to a local hard drive. Many times an organization has multiple copies of a single, large file or they have files (documents, forms, etc.) that are out of date and are no longer needed.
  1. Clean up your individual “home directories.” Please look at your personal “home directory.” ITS is finding that some users are keeping copies of files that are already on their departmental directories, which they don’t need to maintain on their personal home directories. ITS is also finding music files, personal photos, personal correspondence, etc. in CNM home directories. If you have any files like these in your personal home directories that are no longer needed, please delete them or move them to your local hard drive.
  1. Clean up your Outlook e-mail accounts. Please look through your Outlook e-mail account. You should check to see if you have any e-mails with large file attachments that can be either deleted from the e-mail system, or that can be archived to your local hard drive.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the ITS Service Desk at 224-HELP (4357). The Service Desk technicians cannot help you determine whether a file or record should (or must) be kept. If CNM departments have questions about “record retention” policies, they should contact the Records Management Department at 224-4617.

Employees in Max Salazar Hall Need to Prepare Their Work Areas – Interior of Building to be Painted During Break

Faculty and staff located in Max Salazar Hall should remove all personal pictures from walls and store desk items in drawers or other storage areas before leaving for the Winter Break. All offices, hallways, classrooms and restrooms will receive new coats of paint during the break.

Starting with Spring Term, Changes in Registration Deadlines

Beginning with the 2014 Spring Term, a change in policy will require all students to be registered in classes prior to the start of the part of term in which the classes are scheduled. The Spring Term begins Jan. 6. For full-term courses that begin the week of Jan. 6, students will have to be registered in those classes by Jan. 5. For students who plan to take late-start classes that begin after the first week of the Spring Term, students should check the Spring 2014 Course Dates and Deadlines link. The page includes a “Last Day to Register” chart for all late-start classes.

Studies have clearly shown that students succeed at a much higher rate when they are engaged in the learning process from the very beginning of a class. CNM is making this change because it will help more students successfully complete their classes.

CNM Offers Extended Hours When It Reopens After Winter Break on Jan. 2

When CNM reopens after the Winter Break, the Main, Montoya, Rio Rancho, South Valley and Westside campuses will provide extended hours for Student Services offices. CNM’s Student Services offices will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, and Friday, Jan. 3, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4. The 2014 Spring Term begins Monday, Jan. 6.

Some Changes on the Way for Spring Term

There are a number of changes on the way for the 2014 Spring Term, including a new requirement for payments made during the Winter Break and a new requirement for students who might need to take a class for a third time. Mandatory Training Upcoming for All Timesheet Approvers
The Payroll Department is implementing Mandatory Timesheet Approver Training to educate approvers on timesheet procedures. All timesheet approvers will be required to complete the training by April 30. If you are an approver of timesheets, you will receive an e-mail with instructions and a link to the training. Supervisor Academy at WTC Starts Jan. 24
The Workforce Training Center will offer a 12-module skill series for CNM managers and supervisors, called the Supervisor Academy, that will be held every Friday between Jan. 24 and April 11 from 9 a.m.-4 pm. Modules will include: Introduction to Supervision; Effective Communication; Change Management; Conflict Management; Team Building; Coaching, Feedback and Delegation; Delivering Powerful Performance Appraisals; Employment Law and Human Resources; Hiring Right; Problem Solving and Decision Making; Time and Stress Management; Empowerment. Support Group Available for LGBTQ Students
Clinical Counseling Services in the Student Health Center is sponsoring a new student support group for those who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender or Questioning
(LGBTQ). Students are invited to attend, ask questions, share experiences and give and receive support. The first informational meeting will be held Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. in the Student Health Center. Future meeting times and locations will be determined according to facilitators’ and participants’ availability and will be discussed at the first meeting.
