CNM Receives ‘Best Building’ Awards

Two of CNM’s newest facilities are receiving “Best Building” awards from the New Mexico Building Branch of the Associated General Contractors of America. Robert P. Matteucci Hall was recognized in the LEED-certifiable Project category and Westside I was recognized in the Building Information Management category. Aviation Technology Student Interns on Ground Floor of Suborbital Space Flights

CNM student Alexxandria Snell may not be venturing into space, but she will soon be helping people get there. The Aviation Maintenance Technology major has accepted a coveted summer internship with Virgin Galactic in Mojave, Calif., where she’ll contribute to preparations for the first suborbital space launches at Spaceport America in Southern New Mexico. Pharmacy Tech Faculty Member Named to National Accreditation Commission

Douglas Scribner, head of CNM’s Pharmacy Technician program, has been selected to serve on the recently-created Pharmacy Technician Accreditation Commission (PTAC), which is tasked with advancing the quality of pharmacy technician education and training programs around the country. Read more.

Media Production Services Employee Has Film Premier on Feb. 7

You’re invited to view the premier screening of CNM Multimedia Specialist Justin Golightly’s independent film “Void” on Feb. 7 at the South Broadway Cultural Center – the event is sponsored by the City of Albuquerque. There will be two 25 minute showings – 6:15 p.m. and 8:20 p.m. The film is about an astronaut escaping a catastrophic accident in deep space. He uses the memories of his wife on earth to try to guide his crippled spaceship home. Admission is free – the film’s not rated, but is considered PG. Click here for more information.

Get Ready To Be a Recycle Maniac – Know What’s Recyclable and What’s Not

Start getting ready to help CNM make a run at a 2014 RecycleMania Tournament title while also ramping up your contributions to protecting the environment. More than 600 colleges and universities from across the U.S. have entered the competition, which begins Feb. 2. New recycle bins will be in place on Feb. 2 and will no longer require recyclables to be separated. Faculty: Look for a Survey in Your Email Soon Asking for Faculty Input on Office Space Needs

An effort was made to have faculty members participate in focus groups regarding faculty office space needs in preparation for the renovation of Ken Chappy Hall. Due to low participation, a survey will be emailed to faculty soon asking for your input on faculty office space needs that will help guide planning in the future. Please keep an eye out for the email and participate in the survey.


Traveling CNM Library Announces Spring Term Schedule

The Traveling CNM Library provides door-to-door service that allows faculty and staff to access a selection of the CNM Libraries’ print collection from their offices. This spring the Traveling Library will be on the fourth and fifth floors of Max Salazar Hall on the following Mondays starting at 9 a.m.: Feb. 3, Feb. 24, March 24, April 14 and April 28. ITS Thanks You for Your Input on Customer Satisfaction Survey

The Department of Information Technology Services wishes to thank all CNM employees who participated in the ITS Customer Satisfaction Survey during the fall term. Results of the survey helped to clarify the types of communication gaps that are most difficult for employees as well as the concerns with the current Work Request Process. Your support and compliments of the Service Desk and Technicians were also greatly appreciated. Thanks to your input, improvements such as the development of a Work Request Dashboard, development of improved communication strategies and creation of a School of Business & Information Technology (BIT), faculty, staff and ITS partnership are underway.

Faculty Project Fund Available to Help Turn Great Ideas Into Realities

CNM Presidential Fellow of Innovation David Valdés has dedicated funds to help faculty teams get their projects off the ground. The Faculty Project Fund will provide grants of up to $1,500 to help turn great ideas for connecting students and the community into realities.

CNM Hosting UNM Transfer Workshops in February

CNM students interested in transferring to UNM are invited to attend transfer workshops where they will learn how courses transfer to UNM and how to be successful at the university.
The workshops will be hosted by CNM Academic Advisement and Sarah Kieltyka, UNM advisor.  The days and times of the workshops are:

  • Feb. 10 – CNM Montoya Campus, TW 105, Career Resource Center (CRC), 1 p.m.
  • Feb. 11-- CNM Westside Campus, WS 1 Bldg., Room 313, 1 p.m.

Blackboard Learn Access Extended
Starting this Spring 2014, Blackboard Learn will be left open for four days after the official end of the term date as identified in Banner. This change addresses student and faculty concerns about access after classes have ended and responds to a survey of Distance Learning faculty who overwhelmingly support this change. Nominations Now Being Accepted for MSE Faculty Excellence Award
The School of Math, Science & Engineering (MSE) is now accepting nominations for the newly established Jon Gill Bentley Faculty Excellence Award. The award recognizes outstanding full- or part-time MSE faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in one or more of these categories:

  • Teaching Excellence: The instructor is recognized as an excellent instructor of his/her content.
  • Collegial Excellence: The instructor has enriched the school/department/college by supporting and mentoring colleagues and/or contributing significantly to school/department/college activities, such as coordinating courses or serving on committees.
  • Excellence in Student Success: The instructor goes above and beyond to support the success of all students in his/her course(s).
  • Innovation in Teaching: The instructor has implemented innovative teaching strategy(ies) in his/her course(s).

Volunteers Needed for CTE Open House
The Make Your Mark CTE Open House will be held Friday, Feb. 28. High school students from a number of Albuquerque area schools will visit CNM to get an in-depth look at career and technical fields. Students will participate in tours of the college and participate in hands-on activities in several labs. Many volunteers are needed to help give tours, answer questions and help the event run smoothly. Please volunteer today to help with this exciting event!

Student Community Assistant Resource Fairs Scheduled at Main, Montoya, Westside, Campuses
The Student Activities Office invites all students to attend Student Community Assistance Resource Fairs that will take place in February. On hand will be CNM departments and external community partners which will promote their services and programs that are available to assist students meet their academic goals. Dates and locations of the resource fairs are:

WTC Course Offerings Can Keep You Up-To-Date with Professional Licenses
CNM faculty and staff, check out course offerings in 2014 at the Workforce Training Center to keep you up-to-date with your professional licenses. WTC offers a wide variety of continuing education units (CEUs or CNEs) in many disciplines to keep you ahead of the curve. CNM employees receive a 10 percent discount on all WTC classes. Contact WTC at 224-5206 to ask how your department may be able to pay for your training as professional development through the Employee Training Approval Form (ETAF). Starting this month there is a Wellness training for faculty and staff promoting personal health, safety and well-being. Other training opportunities include Strength Quest and Goal Setting training, Mental Health Brown Bag lunches facilitated by UNM psychiatry faculty, and Advisor training. Mandatory Training Upcoming for All Timesheet Approvers
The Payroll Department is implementing Mandatory Timesheet Approver Training to educate approvers on timesheet procedures. All timesheet approvers will be required to complete the training by April 30. If you are an approver of timesheets, you will receive an e-mail with instructions and a link to the training.
