LouAnne Lundgren to Serve as Interim Dean of SAGE

LouAnne Lundgren has been named the interim dean for the School of Adult & General Education (SAGE), replacing the recently retired Pam Etre-Perez. LouAnne officially moved into her new leadership role on Monday.  She will serve in the interim capacity until a new dean is selected. Since August 2005, she has been an associate dean in SAGE. Prior to that, she served as director of instruction in SAGE.

Kenneth Chavez Named Interim Associate Dean in SAGE
Kenneth Chavez has been named an interim associate dean in SAGE. Kenneth has been at CNM since 2005, serving as a full-time faculty member in the reading and English disciplines. Most recently, Kenneth was serving as faculty chair for Reading and College Success. Suzanne Harris-Smith will now assume those duties.

BIT Announces Two New Associate Deans

Two new associate deans have been named in the School of Business & Information Technology (BIT) – Dawn Addington and Barbara Johnson. Dawn will oversee Accounting, Business, Culinary Arts, Financial Services, Hospitality and Tourism and Office Technology. She has worked for CNM since September 1987 and served as program director/chair overseeing the Accounting, Business Associate of Arts and Financial Services since 1992. She has served as the BIT representative and co-facilitator of CNM’s Student Academic Assessment Committee.
Barbara will oversee Computer Information Programs and Information Technology. She joined the college’s Technology Department in 1996 as a computer programming faculty member, after working as a software development engineer and program manager at Rockwell International. She became curriculum chair for the computer programming and networking areas when these Technology Department computer courses were integrated into BIT.  In 2009, Barbara was elected BIT's CIS Faculty Chair.

CNM Trains Financial Coaches Across U.S. to Help Those Struggling Financially

In these times of economic hardships, CNM is helping thousands of people from coast to coast learn how to ease their budget woes. Faculty Load and Compensation (FLAC) Update – Action by Faculty Required

Newly implemented Faculty Load and Compensation (FLAC) processes require faculty to review and acknowledge course assignments.  Instructions and a training video are available on the Employee Tab of myCNM in the Tutorial area (upper right corner).

Full-time Faculty with Overload Assignments – Overload assignments are currently available on myCNM.  Review and acknowledge assignments by Tuesday, May 28, at noon.  For assignments beginning on May 20, the first paycheck including overload pay will be on June 7.

Overload course compensation is calculated as follows:  $30/hour multiplied by Workload. The Workload column is listed on the Faculty Load and Compensation Acknowledgement Form. The definition of “Workload” is weekly contact hours plus office hours multiplied by the number of weeks for the course.

If an instructor’s home school is CHSS or MSE, then the overload course compensation is calculated in one of two ways to account, in part, for the fact that the typical semester is longer in these academic schools: 1) $30/hour multiplied by Workload; OR 2) course credit hours multiplied by a rate which is based on degree status ($550/Bachelor’s; $600/Master’s; $650/Doctorate). The overload rate is the higher of the two calculations.

Part-time Faculty – Summer course assignments will be available on Saturday, May 25, for review and acknowledgement through myCNM.  The deadline to acknowledge assignments is Friday, June 7.  For courses beginning on May 20, the first paycheck will be on Friday, June 21.  Note that course pay is based on the Workload for any given course. The Workload column is listed on the Faculty Load and Compensation Acknowledgement Form. The definition of Workload is weekly contact hours plus office hours multiplied by the number of weeks for the course.  The part-time course compensation is calculated on the Workload multiplied by the appropriate hourly rate.

Please disregard the contact and credit hour figures listed on the Faculty Load and Compensation Acknowledgement Form when evaluating pay. The contact and credit hour columns do not contain the numbers used in the Workload formula. Rather they are used by other entities at the College when processing data related to functions other than pay.

Faculty Invited to Participate on Sustainability Curriculum Team

Faculty members from all CNM schools are encouraged to join the revitalized Sustainability Curriculum Team that is charged with vetting, prioritizing and selecting projects and opportunities for integrating sustainability concepts and theories into the curriculum. Participating faculty members should have a strong interest in supporting CNM sustainability efforts to contribute to a more sustainable environment. Ongoing Project to Update Phone System Results in Staff Phone Extension Changes
As part of a major, ongoing project to upgrade CNM’s phone system capabilities, staff members are in the process receiving new phone numbers or extensions. Some departments have already made the change, and more will be on the way. CNM has access to a limited amount of phone numbers with the “224” prefix – this project will help CNM ensure that its phone system will be able to accommodate future growth. Job Connection and Employee Training Offer Workshop on ‘Applying for Jobs at CNM’
Job Connection Services will present a special employability workshop for CNM employees on “Applying for Jobs at CNM: Using Your Head to Get Around” on Tuesday, June 11 at 3 p.m. in SRC 204. Supervisor Academy Offered Through Workforce Training Center
The Workforce Training Center is offering a 12-module Supervisor Academy for CNM managers and supervisors on Fridays from July 12 through Sept. 27 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The skills training will be held at the Workforce Training Center and will cost $415 with a CNM Employee Training Approval Form. Employee Training Department Offers Fundamentals of Supervision Training
The Employee Training Department is offering a 10-week “Fundamentals of Supervision” training opportunity, facilitated by faculty member Holly Hitzemann from May 31-Aug. 9. The workshop combines fundamentals of supervision with information specific to supervising at CNM. Participants will be introduced to CNM presenters on topics from planning and goal setting to supervising ethics and conflict resolution. Some employees have had their phone extensions changed recently as part of a major upgrade to the phone system at CNM. The most up-to-date source for employee contact information at this time is the online “Employee Directory,” which can be accessed at the bottom-middle of under the headline “Faculty & Staff.” The Global Address List in Outlook is in the process of being updated. As part of the phone system project, staff members will be assigned one of three different types of phone extensions – a personal extension, a position extension or a function extension. New Online Investor Training Available for Employees
CNM is offering a new online training program that can help employees bolster their financial security through basic investing tips and valuable information on managing personal finance, retirement planning and more. The online training program is called “Investor Education in Your Workplace” and CNM was selected as a provider. The training program will last 10 weeks, from May 8-Aug. 16. Participants in this program have increased their financial knowledge by an average of 30-40 percent and improved financial behaviors by an average of 50-60 percent.
