CNM Closed on Monday in Honor of Labor Day
All CNM offices will be closed and no classes will be held on Monday, Sept.
Is CNM Ready for Students of the Future?
CNM faculty and staff are invited to attend upcoming strategic planning forums as the college gathers input that will be used to develop new Strategic Direction goals. When the new Strategic Direction goals are decided upon, they will guide all major efforts at CNM for the next five years beginning in January 2013. The college needs your help in identifying areas that should be given the most prominence in developing five-year goals. Preparing for the students of the future and the workforce needs of the region’s economy will be among the topics of discussion during the forums. President Winograd will participate.
Here’s the schedule for the two upcoming faculty and staff forums:
- Thursday, Sept. 6, at Main Campus Student Resource Center, Room 204, 9-10:30 a.m.
- Monday, Sept. 10, at Montoya Campus H Building, Room 103, 3:30-5 p.m.

Student input is also very important. Students will be asked for their thoughts on what they feel the college should be focusing on over the next five years during a student forum. President Winograd will also participate in the student forum.

CNM Community Unites for Convocation Sept. 14
CNM’s annual Convocation will be held Friday, Sept. 14, at 8 a.m. in the Central Lot, located on the northwest corner of Coal Ave. and Buena Vista Dr. on Main Campus. CNM faculty and staff will join together in the morning to hear from President Winograd. Then, based on past attendee feedback, the second portion of Convocation will be breakout sessions by division. Convocation will conclude with employees joining together again for lunch on the Student Resource Center lawn while enjoying a health and wellness fair. All campuses and departments will be open for business at 1 p.m. The Central Lot will be closed Sept. 12-14 for Convocation preparations. All Central Lot permit holders will be emailed instructions on where to park on those days.

Part-Time Faculty Letters of Appointment Issued Beginning Week of Sept. 10
Letters of Appointment (LOAs) for part-time faculty are scheduled to be issued beginning the week of Sept. 10. LOAs will be distributed to CNM instructors’ email addresses from the Faculty Contracts Administrator (firstname.lastname@example.org). The subject line will read “Fall 2012 Letters of Appointment.” To avoid any interruptions in receiving pay, instructors should expedite review and acceptance of the Letters of Appointment and respond to the email with their “I accept” reply no later than 5 p.m. on Sept. 28. Faculty members who teach for more than one school will receive separate LOAs for each respective school.
The first paycheck for part-time faculty teaching full-term courses is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 28. Pay for short-term courses will begin with the start of the course and be paid through the pay periods when courses are taught. There are nine pay periods for the 2012 Fall Term, beginning Sept. 28 through January 18, 2013.

ITS to Begin Sending Email Notices for Password Expiration Dates
ITS will begin sending e-mail notices to all CNM students and employees when passwords for CNM’s technology services are about to expire. The email notices will be sent to users once a week, beginning 30 days prior to their password expiration date. Users can change their passwords by logging into myCNM. On the myCNM Welcome page in the top left-hand corner, click on “My Account” to change your password. These e-mail notices will not ask users to send any sensitive information via email. The email notices will go into effect next week. If you have any questions or concerns regarding these email notices, please contact the ITS Service Desk by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 224-HELP (4357).
Service Desk Has Extended Hours for Start of Term
The ITS Service Desk will have extended hours on Saturdays to provide extra support for students and employees for the first four weeks of the term (through Sept. 22) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can contact the ITS Service Desk by calling 224-HELP (4357) or by emailing email@example.com.

Respiratory Therapy Program Passes Reaccreditation with Flying Colors
On Aug. 24, the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) determined that the CNM Respiratory Therapy program maintained compliance with accreditation Standards and CoARC Accreditation Policies and Procedures. Based on the outcomes reported, the Respiratory Therapy program has met or exceeded all currently set thresholds for success on each of the required outcome measures. The Commission commended the CNM faculty for their commitment to continuous quality improvement in education, as demonstrated by their participation in programmatic accreditation.
Job Connection Services Hosting Open House, Workshops and Clubs
Stop by the Job Connection Services Office at Main Campus on Wednesday, Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for its Open House, when you can find out about everything JCS has to offer this term. Every visitor will receive a token of appreciation. There will also be snacks provided, games and the opportunity to enter drawings for prizes that include an overnight stay at Tamaya Resort, Cinemark movie tickets and lunch at Tango Café. Sol the Suncat is also expected to check out the Open House.
Throughout the fall term, JCS will also offer resume and interview workshops and host its “Tuesday at Two” Job Club, which are open to all CNM students and graduates. Follow these links to find out more about Workshops and the Job Club.
Health Care Premium Increases Take Effect in September
Insurance coverage premiums through the New Mexico Public Schools Insurance Authority will be increased 6.13 percent for medical health care. For the high option family coverage, Blue Cross Blue Shield coverage will rise about $9.50 per pay period and Presbyterian will rise about $8.50 per pay period for CNM employees. The low option family coverage for BCBS will rise about $8 per pay period and Presbyterian will rise about $7 per pay period. The increase in single coverage for either of the two plans will be slightly less. CNM pays 75 percent of health premiums for full-time employees making $25,000 or more per year and 80 percent for full-time employees making $24,999 or less. Institutional Review Board Offers Recommendations for Research
The CNM Institutional Review Board (IRB) recently published its “Recommendations for Research,” outlining the best practices for conducting research on people at CNM. The IRB is a group of faculty and staff members that reviews all proposed research involving people. If you are a faculty or staff member that requires collection of data from CNM students, staff and faculty, or if you are a faculty member who requires data collection in student projects, make sure you are familiar with the IRB’s recommendations. Montoya Campus Hosts Book Club
At 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27, the Montoya Campus Book Club will host a discussion on Toni Morrison’s novel, The Bluest Eye. This is a tragic tale of an African American girl who yearns to have beautiful blue eyes. Copies are available for checkout at the Montoya Campus Library. Blackboard Learn Services Are Upgraded
The Blackboard System has been upgraded to the Service Pack 8, and now offers a number of new features, including interface changes, backgrounds and themes, task-based navigation, an automatic re-grading option, negative marking for assessments, and improved activity reports. Distance Learning is offering several trainings to help Distance Learning faculty transition to the new service pack. Payroll Calendar Available
If you would like a copy of the 2012-13 Payroll Calendar, the Payroll Office has made it available by clicking here. The Payroll Calendar is color-coded to easily identify college holidays, payroll deadlines and paydays. There is information on the bottom of the Payroll Calendar indicating the number of days employees are paid, whether for the fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) or the academic year (September – August). Both full-time and part-time faculty can note the Academic Year 2012-13 pay dates.
