Tom Wiley Hall Opens Friday; Other Temporary Closures Upcoming at Montoya Campus

With renovations complete in Tom Wiley Hall on Montoya Campus, offices for student services will reopen in the building on Friday (Aug. 10). The Montoya Campus will be temporarily closed from 4 p.m. on Aug. 16 until 8 a.m. on Aug. 18 due to a power outage that will be necessary to upgrade the power system. From Aug. 13-17, the H Building at Montoya Campus will be closed while remodels are made to the food court and kitchen in that building.

Be a Superhero for Students – Volunteer for Suncat Days

In the coming weeks, all CNM employees will be encouraged to volunteer for this year’s Suncat Days campaign, during which employees will be stationed throughout all campuses to help students navigate the first week of the fall term. Volunteer shifts will be available Aug. 27-30. Begin looking at your calendar to see when you can volunteer for a two-hour shift during the first week of the fall term.

Save the Date for Convocation

Mark your calendars! Convocation will be held Friday, Sept. 14 at 8 a.m. in the Central Lot, located on the northwest corner of Coal Ave. and Buena Vista Dr. on Main Campus. CNM faculty and staff will start the morning joined together to hear from President Winograd and then, based on past attendee feedback, the second portion of Convocation will be breakout sessions by division. We’ll end Convocation by joining together again for lunch on the Student Resource Center lawn and enjoy a health and wellness fair. All campuses and departments will be open for business at 1 p.m.

The Central Lot will be closed Sept. 12-14 for Convocation preparations. All Central Lot permit holders will be emailed instructions on where to park on those days.

ITS to Begin Sending Email Notices for Password Expiration Dates

ITS will begin sending e-mail notices to all CNM students and employees when passwords for CNM’s technology services are about to expire. The email notices will be sent to users once a week, beginning 30 days prior to their password expiration date. Users can change their passwords by logging into myCNM. On the myCNM Welcome page in the top left-hand corner, click on “My Account” to change your password. These e-mail notices will not ask users to send any sensitive information to anyone via email. The email notices will go into effect in two to three weeks. If you have any questions or concerns regarding these email notices, please contact the ITS Service Desk by sending an email to, or call 224-HELP, (224-4357).

Paid Parking Permits on Sale – New Online Process for Free General Parking

Main Campus paid parking permits for the fall term are on sale for $43. The process for purchasing paid parking permits remains the same for the fall term. Click here for more information. The process for obtaining the free parking decal for all general parking lots on Main Campus and the other campuses has changed for the fall term. Before picking up a free parking decal, students and employees must register their vehicle information online in myCNM. After registering vehicle info online, the free parking decals can be picked up at the locations listed below.
To access the online system for the free general parking sticker, follow these steps:
Step 1: Log in to myCNM.
Step 2: Click on the “CNM Parking Permits” link located with the Transportation section on the “Welcome” page in myCNM.
Step 3: Complete and submit the registration information for each vehicle.
Step 4: Go to one of the following locations after you have registered your vehicle to pick up your free general parking permit sticker:

Website Redesign Team to Begin Work on Reviewing Content of Top 100 Pages
CNM’s Website Redesign Team will begin reviewing the content of the 100 pages most visited on in preparation for launching a redesigned in late October or early November. For those who have contributed content to, you may be contacted in the coming weeks to help the Redesign Team ensure the accuracy of redesigned content.

Help Raise Funds for the Foundation – Visit Dunkin’ Donuts on Central Today
If you visit Dunkin’ Donuts on Central Ave. near Main Campus today, you will be contributing part of your sale to the CNM Foundation. Today, and every second Tuesday of each month, just print out a flier from the CNM Foundation and take it to the Dunkin’ Donuts on Central and Dunkin’ Donuts will donate 20 percent of the proceeds to the CNM Foundation. Enjoy coffee, donuts, ice cream or other treats at Dunkin’ Donuts today, all while supporting opportunities for CNM Students.

In this month’s issue of Express, find out how you can help CNM identify new goals for its Strategic Direction, which will guide all of the College’s major efforts through the next five years, beginning January 2013. Read about a Nursing Assistant student who credits one of his faculty members for helping him to overcome the learning challenges that stemmed from a brain injury. An in-person New Student Orientation pilot program went through a trial run recently as CNM seeks new ways to increase student success rates. And CNM Connect gets recognized for its innovative student support services.

Construction Updates
The renovation of Jeannette Stromberg Hall on Main Campus is expected to be complete soon and the entire building is scheduled to be open in time for the start of fall term classes Aug. 27.

The new building at Westside Campus, Westside I, is expected to be ready for students in the 2013 spring term.

Distance Learning Upgrading to Blackboard Learn Service Pack 8, Trainings Scheduled
CNM will be upgrading to Blackboard Learn Service Pack 8 (SP8) on August 15, 2012. SP8 offers a number of new features, including interface changes, backgrounds and themes, task-based navigation, an automatic re-grading option, negative marking for assessments, and improved activity reports. Distance Learning is offering several trainings to help Distance Learning faculty transition to SP8. On Tuesday, Aug. 14, faculty new to Blackboard Learn can attend a two-hour Blackboard Bootcamp in room I-102 at the Montoya Campus from 9-11 a.m. This training will cover building and editing courses in Blackboard Learn 9 SP8. For faculty already familiar with Blackboard Learn, Distance Learning will offer a “What’s New in SP8” training in room MJG-107 at the Westside Campus from 1-2 p.m. on Aug. 14 This training covers only the features introduced with the new Service Pack. This training will be repeated on Thursday, Aug. 23, at 9 a.m. in SRC 103 at Main Campus and offered as a webinar on Aug. 24 at 9 a.m.

Get a Special Key Tag, Shop at Albertsons Grocery Stores, and CNM Foundation Receives Part of Sales
The CNM Foundation has partnered with Albertsons Grocery Stores as part of its Community Partners program. The CNM Foundation will earn one percent of every sale when shoppers present a Community Partners key tag with their purchase. One percent of sales will be donated to the Foundation up to $50,000, and after that, all purchases made with a key tag will earn the Foundation five percent. Community Partners key tags are available on request by contacting Marshall Quam at or 224-4686.

Fall ITS Computer Lab Imaging Schedule Available
ITS will soon be preparing the CNM computer labs for the upcoming fall term by completing computer lab imaging. ITS staff would like to encourage faculty to review the schedule and provide feedback if there are issues or concerns by contacting the ITS Service Desk at, or calling 224-4495.

  • July 27 – Chair, faculty and lab staff conclude review of test image.
    • Corrections made to test image – retest images as necessary.
  • Aug. 3 – Image for next semester is finalized.
    • Post signs that “Official 2012 Fall image for Room: ______”
    • Begin image deployment in select computer labs/classrooms (as room schedules allow).
    • Academic Affairs portion of “Image Management Test Plans” are due back to ITS.
  • Aug. 6 – Deployment of final images begins.
    • Begin image deployment in all computer labs/classrooms (as room schedules allow).
  • Aug. 10 – Second Stage Deployment of final images begins.
    • Summer Term ends (Aug. 12).
    • Continue image deployment in all computer labs/classrooms.
    • Any computer labs or classrooms in use during break must be handled with ITS and Lab Supervisors.
  • Aug. 24 – Deployment of final images complete.
  • Aug. 27 – fall term starts.
