Submit Your Nominations for Faculty Chair Council by March 19
The Academic Affairs Division is now taking nominations for candidates for its Chair Council. Chairs are a critical part of the academic leadership at CNM. They work with faculty, associate deans, and deans as agents of development for the academic schools and the individuals within the disciplines/programs they represent. For additional information on this important role and the process, please refer to the CNM Faculty Chair Handbook by clicking here and scroll down to Chair Council. To submit a nomination, please complete the attached form and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org by the deadline of 5 p.m. on March 19. Once nominations have been submitted, the candidates will be notified and required to submit a summary statement by March 26. Summary statements will be posted on the CNM website on March 27 and voting will take place April 9 through April 13. The election results will be reported on April 16 with the official term of appointment beginning on August 27, 2012.
Get a Seat at Table for 'Coffee and Conversations with the President'
Faculty and staff members are invited to join President Winograd for conversations in small, informal gatherings to discuss your topics of interest. There will be no preset topics for discussion, so please have some topics in mind if you plan to participate. Separate conversations have been scheduled for faculty and staff, since there are topics of interest specific to each group. To encourage engaging discussions, there will only be 12 seats per session. To participate, RSVP to one of the sessions below by emailing Samantha Sengel . Coffee will be provided. Volunteers Needed for College Action Projects – Deadline March 23
The Strategic Planning Team is seeking your help to steer the next large improvement initiatives at the college. Four Action Projects have been selected and volunteers are needed to serve on the following Action Project Teams:
- Universal Design: developing a more coordinated approach to compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and to eliminate barriers for all people at CNM.
- First Year Experience Continuation: continue progress on earlier recommendations and develop the Faculty for Student Success model.
- Student Engagement: developing mechanisms to improve student engagement and support students through mentoring.
- Employee Development: developing systems that improve new employee orientation, succession planning, and career progression options.
Each of the projects will be led by a team of individuals representing multiple departments across the college. Teams meet approximately two times per month and the membership commitment will be approximately 1 year. President Winograd Sets New Graduation Goal
In this month's issue of Express, President Winograd talks about the college's new goal to graduate at least 6,000 students by the 2014-15 academic year. Also in Express, two CNM faculty members contribute sections to a popular national guide that prepares students for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT); CNM prepares to launch a new center for military veteran students; and a new simulated hospital environment opens in Jeannette Stromberg Hall. Event to Showcase Published Works of CNM Faculty, Staff
The second annual "CNM Authors: Creative Works by Faculty and Staff" will take place on April 10 at 4 p.m. in the Main Campus Library, located in the Student Resource Center. New Mexico Centennial Author Don Bullis is scheduled to be the keynote speaker for the event, which celebrates and honors faculty and staff who have had their work published in 2011 or 2012. All faculty and staff members who have published or created original work in 2011 or 2012 are encouraged to submit their work for recognition. CNM Libraries will publish a bibliography and acquire copies of all submitted works for display within the Main Campus Library. The event will take place during National Library Week.
Qualifying works include books, book chapters, journal articles, magazine articles, poetry, essays, newspaper editorials, original art work, musical compositions, video productions, conference posters and conference presentations. Join the Conversation about Campus Diversity
Faculty and staff members are invited to join in a conversation called "Inclusive Excellence: Conversations about Campus Diversity" on March 22 from 11 a.m. to noon in the Student Resource Center, Room 202D. The discussion will focus on current practices used to engage in integrating diversity, excellence, and inclusion efforts into our institutional operations. Order Your Regalia for Spring Graduation Ceremony
CNM's Spring 2012 Graduation Ceremony will take place at Tingley Coliseum on the grounds of EXPO New Mexico on Saturday, April 28, at noon. The deadline to order caps and gowns to participate in the Graduation Ceremony is Monday, April 9 at 5 p.m. This is the perfect opportunity to show your support for student success. Please e-mail Brandon Seber, Student Activities coordinator, at email@example.com to submit your cap and gown order with the following information:
- Height, weight and cap size (small, medium, large)
- Degree type (associate's, bachelor's, master's, Ph.D.)
- Field of study
- City and state in which your College/University is located
Please indicate if you need a gown package or just the hood, gown, cap or tassel.
If you have participated in a previous CNM Graduation, simply send a message to the e-mail above indicating that you will attend the Graduation Ceremony and that your information should be on file. Faculty Can Invite Project Heart Start Into Classes for CPR Training
Would you like your students to know how to save a life? Thanks to a student-organized effort, you can provide your students the opportunity to learn the essential skills to be a life-saving hero. The CNM Event Planning class is organizing CNM Project Heart Start, a hands-only CPR training. Students from the Event Planning class will visit CNM classrooms, conduct a short presentation and bring a CPR facilitator and CPR dummies for demonstration and practice. It will take approximately 20 minutes for both the video and actual training. The training will take place the week of April 9-13. The students are excited to pass on this knowledge and empower faculty and students to save lives!
BMX Lot Closed Thursday, March 15, for NCAA Tournament
The BMX Parking Lot just east of Isotopes Park off of Avenida Cesar Chavez is closed today, March 15, due to the NCAA Basketball Tournament at The Pit.
Electrical Outage at Westside Campus on Sunday, March 18
On Sunday, March 18 from 7 a.m. to noon, the Westside Campus will be without electricity due to construction on the Westside Phase III building. Employees do not need to unplug appliances, but please be sure that all documents have been saved and computers are shut down.
Events Upcoming for Students Planning to Transfer to Universities
On March 20 and 21, Academic Advisement will host a University Transfer Fair and TRiO Student Support Services will host a transfer workshop open to all students immediately before the transfer fairs begin. Representatives from 16 New Mexico colleges and universities are scheduled to participate. Click here for more information.
Read to Me Program Seeking Book Donations for Children
The CNM Foundation is currently accepting donated books for children until March 31. Books will go to benefit children in the community through the Albuquerque Business & Education Compact. Contact the CNM Foundation at 224-4686 if you would like to donate books. They can be picked up, you can put them in interoffice mail or drop them off at the Foundation Office on Main Campus, A Building, Room 130.
ITS Service Desk Has Adjusted Hours for Spring Break
During the CNM Spring Break, the ITS Service Desk will have abbreviated hours from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, March 12, through Friday, March 16. The Service Desk will return to normal hours (Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.) on Monday, March 19.
Celebrate Women's History Month Through Spoken Word Event
A spoken word event to celebrate Women's History Month will be held on March 20 at noon at the Rio Rancho Campus library. Help Future Robotics Experts by Volunteering for RoboRAVE
RoboRAVE (Robots Are Very Educational) will be holding its annual robot competition on May 5 at the Albuquerque Convention Center and RoboRAVE needs your help! RAVE is seeking adults to help by serving as track monitors, score runners, ticket takers and more. No experience is necessary. Volunteers will also get free breakfast and lunch, a RoboRAVE t-shirt and free parking at the Downtown Wells Fargo.
