Provide Feedback on CHSS Dean Candidates – Videos of Forums Available

If you were unable to attend the forums held by the finalists for dean of the School of Communication, Humanities & Social Sciences on March 27, video of each forum, candidate résumés and a short survey to provide your feedback on each candidate are available by clicking here . Please complete the survey forms by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4. The hiring committee will review all feedback as part of the decision-making process.

CNM Participating in Best Colleges to Work for Program – Look for Survey Emails from ModernThink and Provide Your Input

CNM is participating in the Chronicle of Higher Education’s Great Colleges to Work for 2012 program. A random sample of faculty and staff will receive links to a survey through your email account from ModernThink. You may have already received emails with the survey from ModernThink on March 18 or 25. More reminder emails will be on the way. The program is designed to gather benchmarking data from higher education institutions nationwide and to recognize colleges that have created great workplaces. Please take time to complete the survey if you receive it. To ensure the confidentiality of your responses, your survey will be processed by ModernThink LLC, a research and consulting firm focusing on workplace excellence. CNM will not be given any information that would allow for responses to be tracked to any one individual. If you have already completed the survey, thanks for your participation. Faculty Co-Facilitators Needed for Action Projects

Faculty members are encouraged to take leadership roles as co-facilitators on one of the Action Project Teams that will begin work in fall 2012. Co-facilitators work together to manage the team by calling and facilitating meetings, handling or assigning administrative details, orchestrating all team activities, and overseeing preparations for reports and presentations. The co-facilitators should have a strong interest in quality improvement and be good at working with individuals and groups. Faculty members will receive project compensation for 50-75 hours per term. Please see the application attached to this email for more details and information about the new Action Projects, which are Universal Design, First-Year Experience Continuation, Student Engagement, and Employee Development.  Please submit your application to Juliane Ziter by Tuesday, April 11.

Participate in Spring Graduation Ceremony – Order Your Regalia Now

CNM’s Spring 2012 Graduation Ceremony will take place at Tingley Coliseum on the grounds of EXPO New Mexico on Saturday, April 28, at noon. The deadline to order caps and gowns to participate in the Graduation Ceremony is Monday, April 9 at 5 p.m. This is the perfect opportunity to show your support for student success. Please email Brandon Seber, Student Activities coordinator, at to submit your cap and gown order with the following information:
• Name
• Height, weight and cap size (small, medium, large)
• Degree type (associate, bachelor’s, master’s, Ph.D.)
• Field of study
• College/University 
• City and state in which your College/University is located

Please indicate if you need a gown package or just the hood, gown, cap or tassel.
If you have participated in a previous CNM Graduation, simply send a message to the email above indicating that you will attend the Graduation Ceremony and that your information should be on file. If you already own regalia and plan to attend the ceremony, please indicate that through the email above so enough seats will be reserved. Parking passes will be available beginning April 9. Graduation Applications for Students Wanting to Participate in Grad Ceremony Due Friday, March 30

The application deadline for students who plan to participate in the Spring 2012 Graduation Ceremony is Friday, March 30. Help spread the word about graduation by providing this video to students eligible to graduate. They can also visit for more information about the Graduation Ceremony, which will take place on April 28 at Tingley Coliseum.

Faculty Spots Open for ‘Coffee and Conversations with the President’

There are still faculty spots open for two scheduled opportunities to join President Winograd for conversations in small, informal gatherings to discuss topics of interest. There will be no preset topics for discussion, so please have some topics in mind if you plan to participate. To encourage engaging discussions, there will only be 12 seats per session. Donate Your Used Children’s Books

The CNM Foundation is currently accepting donated books for children until Friday, March 30. Books will go to benefit children in the community through the Albuquerque Business & Education Compact. Contact the CNM Foundation at 224-4686 if you would like to donate books. They can be picked up, you can put them in interoffice mail or drop them off at the Foundation Office on Main Campus, A Building, Room 130.

Lead and Coal Avenues Return to One-Way Streets on April 4

Beginning the evening of April 4, Coal Ave. that runs through the CNM Main Campus will have one lane open for eastbound traffic from I-25 to Washington Ave. Westbound traffic will be re-routed to Lead Ave. from Washington Ave. to I-25. During this phase, the final layer of asphalt and restriping will take place. The work is expected to last through the end of May.

Argos, the Online Reporting Environment, Gets Redesigned
Beginning Monday, a redesigned version of Argos will be available for users of the dynamic online environment that provides employees with access to detailed enrollment and budget reporting tools. The redesign of Argos included input from department leaders and module coordinators around the College.
The new design, which has heightened security controls, now allows users to access only the reports they need, rather than being presented with reports that didn’t pertain to their department role. Users accessing information from Banner will also have an improved experience. The new design includes a new dashboard tool that will allow employees to choose from a clearly defined list of existing reports. Employees who have been familiar with running reports from the “QuickLaunch” shortcuts option will notice some changes. Since reports have moved to new locations, previous shortcuts will not be functional. Users can receive assistance in creating new personalized QuickLaunch shortcuts. Student Employee Appreciation and Recognition Committee Seeking Nominations
If you know an outstanding student employee who solved a problem, had an innovative idea, performed outstanding work or provided exceptional support, nominate them for an Outstanding Student Employee award. New this year, student employees can recognize a supervisor who goes above and beyond to mentor, coach, support or train student employees by nominating them for an Outstanding Student Employee Supervisor Award by clicking here . Nominations for both awards are due Monday, April 2 . Award recipients will be recognized in April during National Student Employee Week.

It’s Not too Late to Invite Project Heart Start Into Your Classes for CPR Training
Would you like your students to know how to save a life? Thanks to a student-organized effort, you can provide your students the opportunity to learn the essential skills to be a life-saving hero. The CNM Event Planning class is organizing CNM Project Heart Start, a hands-only CPR training. Students from the Event Planning class will visit CNM classrooms, conduct a short presentation and bring a CPR facilitator and CPR mannequins for demonstration and practice. It will take approximately 30 minutes for both the video and actual training. The training will take place the week of April 9-13. If you are interested in having a training during any of your classes, please contact Marcia Sims at . If you cannot host a training this year but would like to at a later date, please let her know. The students are excited to pass on this knowledge and empower faculty and students to save lives!

Submit a Nomination for Excellence Awards
Nominations are currently being accepted for both individual and team Excellence Awards. If you know a CNM employee or team that has provided excellent service to the CNM community, nominate them for an excellence award! Any employee, student or community member can make a nomination. Please contact Eugene Padilla or Nicole Romero at 224-4721 for more information. The deadline to make a Team Excellence Award nomination is May 25 and the deadline for an Individual Excellence Award nomination is April 20.

Microsoft & Adobe Products Being Patched Automatically
As of January of this year, CNM’s ITS department began proactively patching all Microsoft and most Adobe products on CNM desktop computers. Automated system maintenance is performed through a process that remotely accesses and updates all CNM computers. However, laptops that aren’t connected to CNM’s wired networks for an extended period of time do not get updated.  Nor can updates be performed over wireless connections.  In order for CNM laptops to receive updates they must be connected to CNM’s wired network at least once a month.  Another quick and easy way to get updates to any software package on your computer is to simply call the ITS Service Desk (224-4357) – the Service Desk technicians can remotely connect to your computer and push the updates to your system while you are on the phone. Please be aware that ITS does not push all available updates because there are some systems that require very specific software versions on your system in order for them to function properly.  If you have any questions regarding patches or software updates – please contact the ITS Service Desk at 224-HELP.

Classrooms Being Refreshed Thanks to Employees Providing Requests
Prior to Spring Break, a survey form was emailed to CNM faculty and staff, asking employees to identify classrooms that needed maintenance work. Academic Affairs received 166 requests for maintenance on classrooms. Many of those requests were addressed by the Facilities Department during Spring Break, and the rest are being addressed between now and the beginning of the summer term. Academic Affairs and the Facilities Department thank everybody who helped to identify classrooms that needed maintenance in order to provide a better learning environment for students.

Spring ITS Computer Lab Imaging Schedule Available
ITS will soon be preparing the CNM computer labs for the upcoming Summer 2012 term by completing computer lab imaging. ITS staff would like to encourage faculty to review the schedule and provide feedback if there are issues or concerns by contacting the ITS Service Desk at , or calling 224-4495.

    • Review of computer classroom/lab schedules for Summer 2012 term
    • Need documentation of academic software changes & updates for all computer classrooms/labs  (Updated test plans due)
  • April 7 – Build and deployment of 2012 Summer “test image” for faculty/lab staff review
    • “System Under Construction” signs up on test systems in academic computer labs/classrooms
  • April 12 – Deployment of 2012 Summer test image is complete
    • Post “Ready for testing” signs on select computer systems in academic computer labs/classrooms
    • ITS portion of “Image Management Test Plans” are due to Academic Affairs
  • April 13 – Chair, faculty and lab staff begin review of 2012 Summer test image — lab staff go through test plans
    • Feedback corrections to ITS for 2012 Summer test images
  • April 25 – Chair, faculty and lab staff conclude review of test image
    • Corrections made to test image — retest images as necessary
  • April 27 – Image for next semester is finalized — “Frozen”
    • Post signs that “Official 2012 Summer image for Room: __________”
    • Begin image deployment in select computer labs/classrooms
    • Academic Affairs portion of “Image Management Test Plans” are due back to ITS
  • April 28 – Deployment of final images begins
    • Begin image deployment in ALL computer labs/classrooms
