New Pilot for In-person Student Orientation Set for July 19-20

A new pilot program for in-person, new student orientation will take place July 19-20. New students participating in the in-person orientation will have the opportunity to register early for classes and they’ll receive a $50 book allowance for the CNM Bookstore. The sessions will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Main Campus at Smith Brasher Hall, Room 100, on July 19 and July 20. The New Student Orientation Team will evaluate the outcomes from these orientations and make a proposal for future in-person, new student orientation sessions.

Internet Outage for Web-Based CNM Services Starting Friday Night

Due to scheduled network upgrades and increased need for Internet capacity, on the following dates:

  • Evening Outage: Friday, July 20th, 10:00pm ? Saturday, July 21st, 2:00am
  • Evening Outage: Saturday, July 21st, 10:00 pm ? Sunday, July 22nd, 2:00 am
  • Daytime Outage: Sunday, July 22nd, 10:00am ? 2:00pm

?the following services may be affected:

  • Internet access from ALL CNM campuses may experience intermittent performance issues and possible outages.
  • Applications relying on Internet connectivity, or externally “hosted” services that connect back to CNM, may be affected during these periods.
  • Off campus access to MyCNM including registration, Employee Email, files.cnm.edu and other CNM web based applications may be impacted.
  • On campus Internet services may be impacted including access to CNM Learn. 
  • ITS does not anticipate any impacts to local CNM applications such as printing, network storage, Banner or phones
  • Access to CNM Learn from off campus may be minimally impacted during this maintenance

Montoya Campus Student Services Unavailable August 6-9

Student Services at Montoya Campus will have a brief closure from August 6-9 while they move from their current locations to the newly-renovated Tom Wiley Hall. This includes the following offices:

  • Academic Advisement and Job Connection Services (includes Career Resource Center)
  • Assessment (testing)
  • Cashiers
  • CNM Connect
  • Montoya Campus Administration
  • Disability Resource Center
  • Enrollment Services
  • Financial Aid
  • Student ID Office

All other offices at the campus will remain open and classes will continue as usual. Student Services Offices will reopen on Friday, Aug 10, in Tom Wiley Hall. Students can access all services at Main, South Valley or Westside Campus.

Institutional Review Board Offers Recommendations for Research

The CNM Institutional Review Board (IRB) recently published its “Recommendations for Research,” outlining the best practices for conducting research on human subjects at CNM. The IRB is a group of faculty and staff members that reviews all proposed research involving human subjects. If you are a faculty or staff member that requires collection of data from CNM students, staff and faculty, or if you are a faculty member who requires data collection in student projects, make sure you are familiar with the IRB’s recommendations. CNM Learn gets an Upgrade
On August 15, the CNM Learn system will be upgraded to CNM Learn Service Pack 8 (SP8), which offers a variety of new features. Distance Learning is offering the following trainings to help faculty and staff transition to the Service Pack 8:

  • Monday, July 30, 3-4 p.m.: Webinar
  • Tuesday, August 14, 1-2 p.m.: Westside Campus, MJG 107

This training does not cover building or editing courses in CNM Learn.  If you are new to CNM Learn, please review the Bootcamp training video found in the CNM Learn Faculty Resources shell at learn.cnm.edu.  You can sign up for training at http://www.cnm.edu/ctl or on the CNM Event’s Calendar. Changes in Administration for School of Health, Wellness & Public Safety
Michael Voss, formerly an interim associate dean in the School of Health, Wellness & Public Safety (HWPS), has accepted the permanent position as associate dean in HWPS, replacing the recently retired Judi Olean. Jessica Medrano has accepted the position of program director for the EMS programs. And Tom Darling has agreed to serve as an interim associate dean for the Fitness, Public Safety and Legal Studies departments.

Academic Advisement Reduces Waits by Requiring Appointments
Effective this week, students who would like to see an academic advisor must now make an appointment. The new system will help to reduce long lines of walk-in students at the beginning of each term. Walk-in appointments will no longer be taken. Students can make an appointment by calling 224-4321.

Deadline for Submissions to Present at CNM Conference on Teaching and Learning Is July 27
The CNM Cooperative for Teaching and Learning (CTL) will host the first annual CNM Conference on Teaching and Learning on Friday, Oct. 19. The location will be determined later this summer. The conference, which will be for CNM faculty and led by CNM faculty, will feature a wide variety of speakers on a range of topics relevant to all CNM faculty members.
