Fall Term Starts Monday – Welcome Students Back to Campus

With fall term classes beginning Monday, please be prepared to welcome students back to campus. As of this morning, 26,340 students are enrolled. The registration period for full-term classes continues through August 31.

Celebrate “Fresh Starts” on Friday When Outdated Buildings on Buena Vista Come Down

Start the new academic year by participating in a "Fresh Start" event in conjunction with the beginning of demolition of the outdated buildings on Buena Vista Blvd. near the intersection with Coal Ave. on Main Campus. An event will take place on Friday morning at 9 a.m. in the Central Parking lot. All employees are welcome to witness the first blow of the demolition and take the opportunity to let go of last year and look forward to the next one by joining in on this celebration and ushering in your own “fresh start” goals.

Part-Time Faculty Letters of Appointment Issued Beginning Week of Sept. 10

Letters of Appointment (LOAs) for part-time faculty are scheduled to be issued beginning the week of Sept. 10.  LOAs will be distributed to CNM instructors’ email addresses from the Faculty Contracts Administrator (faccontractadmin@cnm.edu). The subject line will read Fall 2012 Letters of Appointment.” To avoid any interruptions in receiving pay, instructors should expedite review and acceptance of the Letters of Appointment and respond to the email with their “I accept” reply no later than 5 p.m. on Sept. 28. Faculty members who teach for more than one school will receive separate LOAs for each respective school.

The first paycheck for part-time faculty teaching full-term courses is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 28. Pay for short-term courses will begin with the start of the course and be paid through the pay periods when courses are taught.  There are nine pay periods for the 2012 Fall Term, beginning Sept. 28 through January 18, 2013.

Mark Your Calendars — Convocation Set for Sept. 14

CNM’s annual Convocation will be held Friday, Sept. 14, at 8 a.m. in the Central Lot, located on the northwest corner of Coal Ave. and Buena Vista Dr. on Main Campus. CNM faculty and staff will join together in the morning to hear from President Winograd. Then, based on past attendee feedback, the second portion of Convocation will be breakout sessions by division. Convocation will conclude with employees joining together again for lunch on the Student Resource Center lawn while enjoying a health and wellness fair. All campuses and departments will be open for business at 1 p.m. The Central Lot will be closed Sept. 12-14 for Convocation preparations. All Central Lot permit holders will be emailed instructions on where to park on those days.

Be a Superhero for Students — Volunteer for Suncat Days

There is still time to volunteer for this year’s Suncat Days campaign, when employees will be stationed across all campuses to help students navigate the first week of the fall term. Two-hour volunteer shifts are available Aug. 27-30. Check your calendars to see when you can volunteer during the first week of the fall term. You can sign up for shifts by clicking here.


Suncat Days 2012: Return of the Superheroes
When we last saw our Suncat Days superheroes they had successfully assisted students in finding their classes, bringing them up to date on changes around the college while welcoming them to campus. Now Fall Term 2012 is right around the corner… will the superheroes show up to save the day once again?

Parking Passes Paid Through Electronic Withdraw Being Delivered

If you pay for parking permits through automatic electronic withdraws from your bank account, your fall term parking permits should be delivered by interoffice mail by today. Permits for paid lots will need to be displayed beginning Monday, the first day of the fall term. For more information on parking, click here.

Health Care Premium Increases Take Effect in September
Insurance coverage premiums through the New Mexico Public Schools Insurance Authority will be increased 6.13 percent for medical health care. For the high option family coverage, Blue Cross Blue Shield coverage will rise about $9.50 per pay period and Presbyterian will rise about $8.50 per pay period for CNM employees. The low option family coverage for BCBS will rise about $8 per pay period and Presbyterian will rise about $7 per pay period. The increase in single coverage for either of the two plans will be slightly less. CNM pays 75 percent of health premiums for full-time employees making $25,000 or more per year and 80 percent for full-time employees making $24,999 or less. Blackboard Learn Services Are Upgraded
The Blackboard System has been upgraded to the Service Pack 8, and now offers a number of new features, including interface changes, backgrounds and themes, task-based navigation, an automatic re-grading option, negative marking for assessments, and improved activity reports. Distance Learning is offering several trainings to help Distance Learning faculty transition to the new service pack. Payroll Calendar Available
If you would like a copy of the 2012-13 Payroll Calendar, the Payroll Office has made it available by clicking here. The Payroll Calendar is color-coded to easily identify college holidays, payroll deadlines and paydays. There is information on the bottom of the Payroll Calendar indicating the number of days employees are paid, whether for the fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) or the academic year (September – August).  Both full-time and part-time faculty can note the Academic Year 2012-13 pay dates.
