CNM Hosts State SkillsUSA Competition, Open House for High School Students
Central New Mexico Community College will host the state SkillsUSA competition from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 3 on the Main Campus. College students from around the state will compete in various competitions ranging from culinary to welding.
SkillsUSA is a national organization that builds a partnership of students, teachers and industry professionals to ensure America has a skilled work force. Students who earn first place in their category have the option to attend the national competition in June in Kansas City. Students will compete in categories such as automotive, cabinet making, cosmetology, plumbing, architectural drafting, nursing and pre-school teaching.
The event will coincide with CNM’s annual Open House for high school students. The students will have the chance to tour the campus, watch the SkillsUSA competitions and find out about career options. Community organizations that will participate include the New Mexico Air National Guard, Albuquerque Fire Department, Albuquerque Police Recruitment Unit, Del Sol Aviation, Associated General Contractors, Associated Builders and Contractors and others.
Media parking is available at Smith Brasher Hall located at the southwest corner of University Boulevard and Coal Avenue on Main Campus. Reporters are asked to check in at the Open House headquarters located in Room 131 of Ted Chavez Hall on the southeast corner of University and Coal.
