TAX HELP New Mexico to Help New Mexicans Receive Rebate Check

The IRS has stated that approximately 35,000 eligible New Mexicans haven’t claimed their stimulus checks because they haven’t filed a tax return. In an effort to get stimulus money to more New Mexicans, TAX HELP New Mexico volunteers will open their doors once again to help eligible New Mexicans file taxes.

The location and dates for those who want help filing taxes are:

• Albuquerque, CNM Montoya Campus, 4700 Morris N.E., Room 129 Building H
8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21

• Farmington, San Juan Community College, 4601 College Boulevard, Computer Science Building Room 7126, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 22

• Gallup, Catholic Charities, 506 West Highway 66
10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 28

New Mexicans who have at least $3,000 in qualifying income from, or in combination with, Social Security benefits, Veterans Affairs benefits, Railroad Retirement benefits and earned income are eligible for the stimulus checks. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) does not count as qualifying income for the stimulus payment.

New Mexicans are eligible for free TAX HELP New Mexico services if their household income is $40,000 or less or they are 65 years old or older.

In order to have taxes prepared at a Tax Help New Mexico location, tax payers must have the following documents:  Social Security cards for themselves, their spouse and dependents; birth dates; Form W-2 wage and tax statements from employer; a bank document with routing and account number for direct deposit; a statement from care provider with the amount paid, address and tax number if claiming child and dependent care expenses; a list of all itemized deductible expenses; and, if necessary, Form W-2G for certain gambling winnings; SSA-1099 Social Security benefits statement; and records of all other income received.
