CNM and University of New Mexico representatives signed three “2+2” agreements to help ease the transfer process for students during a ceremony in the Rotunda of the State Capitol Building in Santa Fe on Thursday.

The 2+2 model provides clear pathways for students to attend CNM for the first two years of coursework in a particular field of study and then seamlessly transfer to UNM for the final two years of coursework in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree.

The three 2+2s are in the fields of nursing, radiology and engineering. Nursing students will now be able to attain an associate’s degree in nursing at CNM, then seamlessly move into UNM’s School of Nursing to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing.  Radiology students can now attain an associate’s degree in radiology technology at CNM, then move into UNM’s School of Medicine in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in radiology. Construction management students at CNM are now able to seamlessly transfer into UNM’s School of Engineering in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in engineering.

Among those in attendance at the signing from CNM were President Katharine Winograd, Vice President for External Affairs Susan Murphy and Vice President for Academic Affairs Beth Pitonzo. UNM representatives included: Karen Carlson, former interim dean of the College of Nursing and current professor in the College of Nursing; Elizabeth Greer, director of Radiologic Sciences in the School of Medicine; Dr. Jeffrey Griffith, executive vice dean of the School of Medicine; and Joseph Cecchi, dean of the School of Engineering.

There are now eight official transfer agreements between CNM and UNM that have been signed since the two institutions signed a historic memorandum of agreement in the summer of2007. The other transfer agreements involve the fields of liberal arts, business management, fine arts and university studies.

More 2+2 transfer agreements are in the process of being developed.
