CNM Graduates First Class of Community Health Workers

The first class of community health workers at Central New Mexico Community College graduated this week. The class of 20 now has the skills to work with low-income residents who need health care.

The Community Coalition for Healthcare Access (CCHA) received grant funding to train community health care/patient advocates at CNM. CNM’s Workforce Training Center and the School of Health, Wellness and Public Safety administered the program. CNM and CCHA partnered to develop the training in record time, less than nine months.

The students will pursue careers as community health advocates, working in hospitals and public health offices.

CNM is looking to add another training opportunity in spring 2010 for those interested in community health advocacy.
