Find Your Fauna Tour Highlights Wildlife
There’s a large unseen community that is thriving close to the Westside Campus, and two Central New Mexico Community College faculty members will give guided tours. The “Find Your Fauna Tour” at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 5 will showcase the variety of planet, insect and wildlife that calls the west side of Albuquerque home. The event will be held at the Outdoor Amphitheater at CNM’s Westside Campus.
Tour guides Rich Calabro, interim dean of MSE, and Justin Fuller, an instructor in CHSS, will talk about the life that surrounds the Westside Campus and the tools used by naturists to capture and study small animals. They will tell about their adventures as naturalists. The two will then lead an evening walk to view the active life of creatures who awake when the sun starts to set.
“The idea for this event is take advantage of the natural resources on the west side,” said Calabro, who taught biology for 14 years. “The west side is full of insect life and various kinds of snakes and lizards.”
He said they will also show preserved specimens of a variety of insect life. The walkabout tour will start at 7:30 p.m.
Participants are encouraged to wear long pants and sturdy walking shoes, bring flashlights and water. Participants can also bring a field guide and binoculars.
“This will be a fun evening of exploration and great opportunity to teach kids about the outdoors,” Calabro said.
