TAX HELP New Mexico’s Midnight Madness will take place from 8 a.m. to midnight Tuesday at CNM’s Montoya Campus in Room H-129. The Montoya Campus is located at 4700 Morris Ave. N.E.
Certified tax preparers will be on hand to help tax payers beat the looming tax deadline. TAX HELP New Mexico files state and federal returns electronically so tax payers won’t have to make a mad dash to the post office.
TAX HELP New Mexico is in its 33rd year and is for people whose household income is $40,000 or less or those who are 65 years or older.
In 2007, TAX HELP New Mexico served 25,000 customers and returned more than $20 million to the New Mexico economy. The IRS has praised TAX HELP New Mexico, which it uses as a nationwide model for other areas seeking to implement similar programs.
TAX HELP New Mexico, which began as a way to provide accounting students with work experience while serving a community need, now has 44 sites statewide this year. The sites are staffed by volunteers who attend training sessions and pass an IRS certification exam.
