ITS Needs Your Help -- 'K' Drive Out of Space

The "K:" drive on CNM's network that's used by departments to store information and user home directories are running out of storage space. ITS needs your immediate help in cleaning up your network storage space and deleting unnecessary items. The public folders are filling up as well.

 

The network storage space that is provided by CNM’s ITS department is completely full. Some users have noticed that they may get an error when trying to save files to your departmental “K” drive or to your own home directory. This is simply because there is no room currently available on these systems.

We desperately need your help in doing some “electronic housekeeping.” We are finding that there are many files that users are storing on CNM’s servers that really should either not be there at all or would be better stored on the user's local computer hard drive.

What we need you to do immediately:

  1. Cleaning up department data stored on the CNM “K: Drive”

Please have someone within your organization look at your departmental files, forms, pictures, etc. to see if there are any non-critical data files that can be deleted or moved to a local hard drive. Many times, an organization is found to have multiple copies of a single, large file – or they have files (documents, forms, etc.) that are seriously out of date and are no longer needed.

  1. Cleaning up your individual “home directories”

Please look at your personal “home directory.” ITS is finding that some users are keeping copies of files that are already on their departmental directories, which they don’t need to keep in their personal home directories. ITS is also finding music files, personal photos, personal correspondence, etc. in users' home directories. If you have any files like these in your personal home directories that are no longer needed, please delete them or move them to your local hard drive.

  1. Cleaning up your Outlook e-mail accounts

Please look through your Outlook e-mail account. You should check to see if you have any e-mails with large file attachments that can be either deleted from the e-mail system or that can be “archived” to your local hard drive as well.
