CNM Job Fair Connected Hundreds of Students with Employers

March 12, 2014 -- Some 372 job seekers attended the CNM Job Fair at the Workforce Training Center last week with 49 employers on hand ready to offer them jobs. The event was organized by Job Connection Services.

“We hold this event annually to fulfill our mission of connecting students and graduates with employers who are seeking CNM students and graduates to fill their jobs,” said Anna Watkins, manager of Job Connections Services. “It’s a unique opportunity for the job seekers to meet many employers in one place and to promote themselves as serious job candidates.”

While the 2014 Job Fair wasn’t the largest CNM has held in recent years, it was slightly larger than last year when 365 job seekers attended.

One requirement that distinguishes the CNM Job Fair from others in the community is that employers who participate must have jobs available for CNM students. Employers who have posted jobs with CNM, hired CNM students or attended in past years are invited to the fair. “They are selected because they have jobs that align with CNM’s programs,” Watkins said. “This is a great advantage to both job seekers and employers – a carefully targeted event.”

She noted that many of the students who came to the Job Fair are also attending other job fairs around the area. “We received a lot of feedback that our job fair is the best. One major reason is that it’s set up specifically for them,” Watkins said.

Some comments about the fair from employers collected through a survey:

  • “This was excellent. A lot of attendees, very good prospects, nice facility and easy to get to.”
  • “You’ve done an outstanding job with applicants.”
  • “Well run fair – nice helpers.”
  • “Everything was great. I don’t know of anything you need to improve on.
