Security Mission Statement

The mission of the Security Department is to provide a proactive protection program that addresses the security needs of Central New Mexico Community College.  Through a proactive, program approach, the department provides effective prevention and deterrence capabilities as the first line of protection for life, property, and general public safety.

Department Provides:

  • Active Preventive Patrol

  • Escort Service

  • Building and Equipment Security

  • Asset Protection of Tangible Resources

  • Protection of Sensitive and Confidential Information

  • Telecommunications via PBX and Dispatch

  • First Response CPR and First Aid Services

  • Critical Incident Response

  • Education and Training of Staff and the CNM Community

  • Crime Prevention Program

  • Campus Alarm and Locksmith Services

The Security Department

Providing of a staff of 50 personnel, all with comprehensive training, there are 39 uniform officers who patrol the campus and parking-lot areas 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The other personnel are made up of security supervisors and administrative personnel. Within their jurisdiction, which includes all CNM-owned, -leased or -controlled property, campus security officers have the authority to enforce all regulations and policies within the campus environment. The Security Department works closely with the Albuquerque Police Department, the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office, Rio Rancho Department of Public Safety and the NM State Police on incidents that occur on or near the campus.  The Security Department works closely with the Dean of Students Office regarding violations of CNM Regulations.  In 2003, APD police officers were hired by CNM to patrol CNM Main campus.

Campus Security Authority

The authority of CNM Security Department stems from the CNM Governing Board. These powers extend to all campuses that CNM owns, leases, and operates.  The Security Department is responsible for the protection of life and property and investigating all campus crimes. Major crimes are investigated in cooperation with the local law enforcement authorities. Officers are trained in many aspects of crime prevention and community service.
