Security Officer Positions

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under immediate supervision performs security work of routine difficulty.  Maintains security of College facilities, assists staff, students, and visitors, investigates security breaches, unlocks doors, prepares reports, relieves dispatch as needed and performs traffic, parking control, and other related duties as assigned.  Exposure to inclement weather and/ or hostile or abusive persons.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  High School Diploma or equivalent and (6) months related experience.

PREFERENCES:  Post secondary education, security training or experience preferred.  Working knowledge of security procedures and radio communication in accordance with FCC rules and regulations.  Ability to: effectively communicate verbally and in writing with diverse publics; apply listening and interviewing skills; make quick judgments and work under stress; and resolve conflicts and solve problems in various situations.

SELECTION PROCESS:  Applicants must complete interview, written skills assessment, motor vehicle and criminal background, and work references checks, and pass pre-employment drug/ alcohol screening.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  Valid New Mexico driver's license (class D or higher) required.  Must complete CJ296 within one (1) year of hire.  Subject to random drug testing.

WORK SCHEDULE: Shifts vary with the needs of the College.  May be assigned to any campus.  May be required to work any shift, weekends, holidays and mandatory overtime.

PAY RATE:  $10.05 per hour plus $.42 shift differential for hours worked between 11pm and 7am.

Security Dispatchers

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Under immediate supervision, performs moderately complex security dispatch duties.  Receives and records emergency and non-emergency requests for security, parking, and other services and dispatches personnel appropriately.  Screens and directs incoming calls; manages the flow of information to and from field units; dispatches maintenance and operations employees after normal business hours. Coordinates campus response of outside emergency services with agencies such as Albuquerque Police Department, Albuquerque Fire Department and ambulance services; monitors alarm board and notifies appropriate personnel/ departments when an alarm is activated. Maintains required FCC and College activity log book. Inputs information into computer database.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  Completion of a post-secondary office occupations program or equivalent and one (1) year related experience. Directly related work experience may be substituted for educational requirements. Specific training on CNM’s communication equipment will be provided after employment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must successfully pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.

PREFERENCES: Working knowledge of radio and telephone communications systems; knowledge of terminology and activities of a security department desirable.  The ability to: speak distinctly and hear accurately; tactfully communicate with a diverse range of people; perform clerical and record keeping functions; work effectively under pressure in emergency situations.  Proficient in the use of personal computers and MS-Office software.

WORK SCHEDULE:  Minimum of sixteen (16) hours per week.  Current work schedule is 11 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday and 11 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday.  Initial schedule subject to change to meet the needs of the College.

Security Aide (Student Employee)

STUDENT AIDE JOB DESCRIPTION:  Job duties will vary depending on departmental needs.  Types of duties may include:

- Clerical functions (copying, collating, word processing, filing, answering phones, etc.)

- Compliance with Federal Privacy laws when accessing confidential student information

- Level of supervision will vary from close to working independently

- Provide customer service to students, other CNM departments and the public

- Other duties as assigned to meet departmental needs

EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL SKILLS:

- Experience required will vary depending on specific job duties

- Appropriate verbal and written communication skills

- Related coursework may be required
