Location directions: We are located in the North Valley. Travel West on Candelaria. Trellis is the last cross street before you reach the Rio Grande Nature Center.

Agency Description/Mission: Children's Grief Center of New Mexico is a safe place for children, teens, and adults to share feelings and experiences while grieving a death – through facilitated peer support groups.

Service Learning opportunities: There are many opportunities for service learning at the Children's Grief Center of New Mexico: (1) Provide support to children, teens, young adults, or their caregivers who are grieving the death of someone they love; (2) Greet bereaved families and help them feel welcome, help to serve dinner and help to clean up after families go to their support group or help to care for infants and toddlers who are too young for support group; (3) Provide administrative support in our office and work on special projects that would help us better serve grieving children and their families; or (4) Work with CGC staff to create and complete a personalized project that is interesting, educational, and beneficial for everyone involved.

Orientation/Training schedule:  Individual orientations for CNM Service Learning Students will take place at our office at a time that is convenient for you. Our next Bereavement Facilitator Training is scheduled for August 3 and 10, 2013, and January 11 and 18, 2014. This training is mandatory for anyone wanting to facilitate support groups with CGC. 

Special conditions or requirements: A background check is necessary for anyone who will be working directly with children.

Number of Service-Learning Students Needed: 3 or 4

Hours of operation when students are needed: Hours are very flexible

Minimum hour commitment required: 15 hours per semester
