Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails, Inc.
Location directions: North of I-25 – Jefferson, west side of Jefferson between Singer and Osuna. Holman's is on the corner of Jefferson and Jefferson Plaza.
Agency description/mission: Girl Scouts builds girls of courage, confidence, and character that make the world a better place. Service Learning with Girl Scouts is a rewarding and uplifting experience. No matter what your talents, skills, or objectives – you can have an impact on a girl's life, and your community.
Service Learning opportunities: We are willing to work with Service Learning students to find an opportunity that fits your lifestyle, interests, skills, course objectives, and schedule.
Many service learning students work within our council office, help with both large and small scale events, assist in planning, preparing, or providing programs to the girls.
Please mention if you are interested in working in the Santa Fe community.
Orientation/Training schedule: Orientation is provided on a one-on-one basis. Please call and arrange an appointment. Last minute appointments are discouraged and not guaranteed.
Special conditions or requirements: We will require Service Learning students to complete a Volunteer Application (back ground check) before working directly with girls
Number of Service Learning Students Needed: No limit
Hours of operation when students are needed: Flexible. Vary by event/opportunity
Minimum hour requirement: 20 (15 regular hours plus necessary training).
Good Samaritan Society Programs
Location directions: From CNM main campus: Take Coal (one-way), continue on Zuni, turn left onto San Mateo, go 4 blocks past Central, turn left on Roma (before Lomas) and park. Walk across.
Agency description/mission: We offer a continuum of care to seniors and patients in rehab. Our motto is "In Christ's Love, Everyone is Someone." We are open to people of all faiths. Our residents range in age, most are in their mid-eighties.
Service Learning opportunities: There are 3 departments participating in Service Learning: A) Apartment's Dietary involves interacting with and helping seniors during meals. Contact Susan Martinez; B) Resident Services means interacting with seniors while working on filing projects in an open office setting. Contact Aaron Kopitz; C) Health Care Center Activities includes supervised visiting and helping with group activities. No personal care. Contact Karrie Waid. How would you like to participate? Orientation/Training schedule: Schedule your orientation and service hours with the appropriate contact person in the department of your choice. Orientation includes a 30 minute HIPPA video, tour and introductions.
Special conditions or requirements: Respect and caring for people of all ages. Bright-minded attention to detail. Sense of humor, a plus. This is a face-to-face society. Plan to smile and make friends. We provide a nametag. You sign in and out at the reception desk and in your department every visit. Please no cell phones or blue jeans. Dress as if you are visiting your grandparents ☺
Number of Service-Learning Students Needed: Up to 21 in Apt's Dietary Dept.; 2 in Apt Resident Services; 5 in Health Care Activities.
Hours of operation when students are needed: 3 meal times between 7:30am-6:30pm in Apt's Dietary; 9-4 in Resident Services; variable over 7 days in Health Care Activities.
Minimum hour commitment required: Weekly 2 hours; Semester 15 hours
