Location directions: Southwest corner of Avenida Cesar Chavez (Bridge Blvd.) and 4th Street SW
* From east: 4th Street is four lights west of I-25
* From west:  the second light east of the Rio Grande bridge
Parking is in lot out front or along 4th Street.  HLA building is a pueblo-style building, Visual Arts is a larger pre-Columbian-inspired building with steps, the Roy E. Disney Center for the Performing Arts is just west of Museum.
Volunteer Program Office is on the 8th Street side of the NHCC, in the two-story Education Building.

Agency description/mission: Mission: To create greater cross-cultural appreciation of Hispanic culture by preserving and showcasing historic and contemporary Hispanic arts, humanities and achievements from the past 400 years.  Participating Departments:  1) Visual Arts (VA):  Art Museum, La Tiendita Museum Shop  2) International: Spanish Resource Center library 3) Roy E. Disney Center for Performing Arts (REDCPA):  theaters and box office 4) National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation.

Service Learning opportunities:

  1. Administrative, PR/Marketing: Data-entry and making phone calls, good communication skills required, some bi-lingual ability helpful
  2. La Tiendita, Museum Shop: Retail assistant, communicate with the public
  3. NHCC Foundation: Clerical, data management, and event planning assistant
  4. Spanish Resource Center library: cataloguing books and other material, reference desk.  Great opportunity to practice advanced Spanish skills!
  5. REDCPA Box Office and theatres: Ticketing, sales, data management, event planning experience in a professional setting

Orientation/Training schedule: There will be a general orientation and NHCC tour for all students. Further training will be up to the department in which the student is placed.

Special conditions or requirements: Spanish fluency required only for Spanish Resource Center. Dependability is a requirement for all positions. No call/no show for assigned day and time will result in student being dropped from the program.

Hours of operation when students are needed: Monday thru Friday 10:00 am - 5:00 pm for most positions. La Tiendita is open Tuesday-Sunday 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. REDCPA Box office has flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Minimum hour commitment: 15 hours per semester
