Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) prohibits acts of sexual violence that include sexual assault, sexual harassment, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking on all of its campuses and properties. CNM will support and enforce the laws of the city, state and federal governments regarding any acts of violence.  Student incidents will be adjudicated through the Student Code of Conduct process and would be separate or coincide with police department investigations. If a hearing is held to adjudicate the case, the victim does have a right to have an advisor present during the hearing (policies and procedures related to this process would be enforced). The Student Code of Conduct provides additional information on disciplinary procedures, sanctions and appeal processes.

Consequences for Violations

Violating the Student Code of Conduct by committing acts of sexual violence to include sexual assault, sexual harassment, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking can result in sanctions appropriate to the circumstances including but not limited to warnings, Disciplinary Probation, No Contact Directives, Bans from a certain area of CNM property or a certain class and separation from CNM for a period of time (Suspension or Dismissal) or permanently (Expulsion). More information about the student disciplinary process can be found in the Student Code of Conduct.

Reporting Incidents

If you believe you have been a victim of sexual violence that include sexual assault, sexual harassment, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking contact CNM Security immediately to place a report. Emergency Dispatch can be reached at (505) 224-3001 or 911 on any CNM phone and non-emergency dispatch can be reached at (505) 224-3002. You should follow up with a call to the Dean of Students at (505) 224-4342 and schedule an appointment with the Dean of Students.

Once the report is filed Security can assist you in contacting law enforcement to file a report and, if appropriate and if you wish, in obtaining Temporary Restraining Order, contacting local shelters for victims of sexual or relationship violence and/or contacting the Rape Crisis Center of Central New Mexico or other appropriate community resources. Security also offers an Escort Service. Call non-emergency dispatch to have an Officer report to your location and escort you to class or any campus location you may need to go to.

The Dean of Students will work hard to insure your safety and will assist you in arranging temporary remedies that may be appropriate to your situation such as working with faculty to manage missed classwork, changing class sections or arranging for administrative services to be provided in an alternate way. Note that these are examples and may not be appropriate in your situation. The Dean of Students can also assist you in connecting with college resources such as Achievement Coaches.

CNM does adhere to FERPA guidelines regarding confidentiality of student information and records. CNM can release information if necessary in situations of safety to self or others.

Preservation of Evidence

Do your best to preserve any evidence related to the incident so that campus authorities have as much information as possible. Evidence may range from bruises and torn clothing to text messages, emails and screen captures of social media site such as Facebook and Twitter.
