Regular Full-time Facilities Project Architect
Dependent upon experience
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop architectural projects; prepare design, bid, contract and budget documents; follow projects through construction completion within compliance, program and budget requirements. Develops construction documents, program design, cost estimating, project management and new construction projects. Prepares construction documents directly; performs as project manager for assigned projects including programming design, estimates, inspections and contract documents. Assists in review of construction documents prepared by others and development of computer based record system for buildings. Updates and maintains building drawings, utility masters and campus maps. Prepares or oversees the preparation of various schedules, reports, forms, sketches, artwork and charts and maintains appropriate files. Coordinates the construction of projects with work order desk. Inspects all work in progress at construction sites; resolves problems with/for contractors and subcontractors. Ensures timely completion of projects; verifies application for payment and issues progress reports. Consults with a variety of internal and external publics for results consistent with the objectives set by the administration in support of the CNM mission. Presents project information to outside contractors, architects, or others at pre-bid and pre-construction conferences and meetings. Provides monthly and quarterly information to administration. Oversees renovation crew. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Architectural, or a related field, and five years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Ability to relate to and interact with a non-traditional diverse employee and student population. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Valid New Mexico Driver’s License and Architectural License registered in the State of New Mexico. A vehicle background check is required. PREFERENCES: Requires technical knowledge and skills to program requirements and produce/supervise the production of construction documents. Ability to: operate a computer system specific to the production of construction documents as well as manage other computer related items for the department; oversee multiple construction projects; work with contractors to develop solutions while balancing objectives such as cost, schedule, performance, quality and safety; ensure construction and remodel projects are completed and executed in compliance with established guidelines; read and interpret blueprints; effectively communicate verbally and in writing with diverse audiences. Successful candidate should have a broad understanding of all related Architecture/Engineering disciplines to include: knowledge of building construction and design principles; construction methods, materials and safety practices; contract and project management techniques; construction estimation, contract administration and project budgeting; and applicable federal, state, and local codes and ordinances. WORK SCHEDULE: Exempt position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week; normally, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. A variable schedule may be required, dependent upon project needs and the needs of the College. This position is currently based at Main Campus however, changes can occur depending on the needs of the college. DATE OF EMPLOYMENT: Upon approval.
