Position:  Regular Part-time Instructors for Instructional Pool in CHEMISTRY (Number of openings dependent upon student enrollment/hiring for part-time pool)

Pay Rate:  Pay is based upon educational level and teaching assignment; generally pay is $1900 or more per course.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach one or more courses, at assigned campuses.
  • Conduct one (1) office hour per week for each course taught at the campus where the class is held.
  • Meet administrative deadlines and requests for student data/assessment as assigned by the department or the institute.
  • Attend one department meeting per term.
  • Participate in TVI’s Professional Development Plan and portfolio process for part-time faculty.
  • Possible substituting for other faculty in the discipline-if available.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  Minimum requirement is a Master's degree (conferred before beginning instruction) or equivalent in chemistry from an accredited institution; closely related degrees may be considered in combination with a minimum of two semesters of higher education instructional experience in lower division chemistry.  Minimum of one semester of higher education teaching in chemistry required.  Ability to relate to and instruct a non-traditional, diverse student population. 

PREFERENCES: 

  • A conferred Master’s degree in Chemistry from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of current developments in chemistry instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize a variety of teaching methods in a lecture, and a laboratory setting.  
  • Ability to relate to and instruct a non-traditional, diverse student population. 
  • Demonstrated ability to relate and explain complex subject matter at the community college student’s level. 
  • Current community college experience. 
  • At least four semesters of recent higher education teaching experience in chemistry.

WORK SCHEDULE:  As assigned based on term schedules.                            

DATE OF EMPLOYMENT:  Upon approval.
