Allatia Harris Bio

Allatia Harris has worked for the Dallas County Community College District since 1978 and has served as District Director for Academic Curriculum Initiatives there since May 2007.

In her career Harris has served as a chief academic officer, a district office administrator, an academic dean and a faculty member.

In addition to her current position, her experience includes: Faculty at the University of Phoenix and community colleges in Dallas (present); interim vice president of instruction at Eastfield College (Dec. 2005-May 2007); district director, faculty development and core curriculum evaluation with the DCCCD district office (Sept. 2002-May 2007); executive dean, arts and sciences (Aug. 1996-Sept. 2002), dean, communications division (Aug. 1994-Aug. 1996) and faculty (Aug. 1978-Aug. 1994) at Mountain View College; and teaching assistantships at the University of Southern California (Sept. 1975-Feb. 1977) and the University of North Texas (Aug. 1974-Aug. 1975). 

Harris holds a doctoral degree in educational administration with a specialization in community college leadership from the University of Texas at Austin. She also completed doctoral studies (no degree) at the University of Southern California in speech communication with specialization in performance of literature and interpersonal communication. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees in speech communication from the University of North Texas.
